Improved accessibility to the lay person, a friendlier community outlet than email lists and IRC alone can provide, improved venues in which to practice the language, and a more active welcome wagon. I believe the solution is a friendly second website based around the community, as contrasted to the existing website which is based around formal language development and authority. These should not be on the same site. Both sites should have prominent links on their homepages to guide experts to lojban.org and beginners/laymen to the other site. >>From experience having felt the same way when I arrived here as you feel now, I can assure you these problems are not based on bad motivations from the leadership. The cause is that it's too much work. There was a span of a few years recently when I put in a truly obsessive amount of work and improved these factors a great deal over what they were before. Then, on January 1 of 2007 I lost my job and took a hiatus to provide for my income, a mission which is still far from satisfactorily complete. When that happened, the homepage was no longer updated, the blog was not updated as frequently, no one took up my Lojban podcast, and no one took up my mantle of welcome wagon. So, the available pool motivation in the community is what it is, and there is nothing to be gained by complaining. I plan to rededicate myself to Lojban in May of 2009 when I am done chairing Penguicon. I hope you will mark your calendar to return at that time, if not sooner. Thanks very much for your feedback. Sincerely, Matt Arnold AKA Eppcott To unsubscribe from this list, send mail to lojban-list-request@lojban.org with the subject unsubscribe, or go to http://www.lojban.org/lsg2/, or if you're really stuck, send mail to secretary@lojban.org for help.
