So no advantages in Lojban ? That's the point. Besides, the process of memorizing all those "jinmlruterfordi" is not so cheerful. So it's a shortcoming of Lojban compared to natural languages. > > I don't think we need names for isotopes, but we do need a way of designating > them. The only isotopes that actually have names in English are protium, > deuterium, and tritium. > Let's look at my first suggestion. We can use: xukmixepa is Hydrogen-1 xukmixere is Deuterium (Hydrogen-2) xukmixeci is Tritium (Hydrogen-3) And we need something that will indicate hydrogen in general as we can't say "xukmixe" as noted earlier. > "xukmiri", "xukmiro", and "xukmiru"? May be. Another alternative for elements is to say la ruterfordium. or la rutxerfordium. after all. Such names are almost immediately available for use by chemicists. But we can keep already existing gismu for Ferrum, Aurum etc. as they are quite handy. And I also think it'd be better to just cmenenize compounds' names. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "lojban" group.
