I do think it's entirely possible for a region of the internet to be split off in a way that would cause dialect formation. We just don't have any spaces in the virtual Lojbanistan that are separated, everywhere is open to everyone and so there's a lot of cross pollination that mostly flattens the differences. I bet we could produce some dialectical divergence if we just created some spaces that were only open to a subset of the community-- but that's probably a terrible idea. :) If there were regular in person meetings somewhere, that would create a natural barrier because it would be hard for anyone from another place to attend. I'm not sure how much of a dialect would really form though, because the innovations in that group would probably escape fairly quickly to the rest of us when we talked to them online or saw videos from their meetings. Knowing Lojbanists though I'd be surprised if they didn't at least have a bunch of in-jokes! It'll be interesting to observe. mi'e la stela selckiku mu'o -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "lojban" group.
