So maybe the rule of thumb should just be to use elidable > terminators only where necessary (that's what natural usage is mostly, > right?) No, that's a dialectal thing. Some people will always use {cu} whenever possible, some (like myself) will use {cu} only when felt necessary (like instead of kuku or some strange number of terminators). So, if that is your only logic, it is an incorrect assumption. It's like operating under the assumption that your accent is the only one that matters when determining how something is pronounced in English. For the record, {.i } is rather important as {xu do tavla} is meaningless horseshit AFAIC due to the fact that {xu} is not attaching to anything, regardless of how often this phrasing is used. Regardless of what the usage is now, we have the collective opinions of a bunch of misguided and uninformed newbs and one crazy person that disagrees with everything on a regular basis as the standard in this thread. =D {ni'o} is for new subjects, {.i } is for continuing those subjects, {no'i} is for old subjects. Even if you don't normally use them or see them used, please start using them. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "lojban" group.
