It can also be written top-to- > bottom. =D How about this for a variation: For a CCV syllable, you can write the second consonant inside the first one, and the vowel inside the second consonant. For a CVC syllable, you can write the second consonant to the right of the vowel inside the first consonant. That way each syllable is always a single block, and you can immediately tell how many syllables there are.
