Because honestly, I've used both when counting to myself (stitches, during knitting and crocheting), depending on whether the extra syllable was convenient. Similarly, I can imagine counting time in music with {pa re ci} when counting quarter notes and {pa .i re .i ci .i vo .i} when counting eighths.
