Which Came First - Social CRM or Social Media?

To better serve your members and recruit new ones, should you first set up a Social CRM infrastructure to organize your efforts, or would it be better to just get started with social and learn as you go?

It’s a classic chicken/egg conversation, and both schools of thought have their merits – should organizations:

1)  first set up a Social CRM infrastructure so that they can organize and track the effectiveness of their social media efforts, or

2) dive right into the social media networks that seem to make the most sense for their members and use early results to formulate a social strategy?
