Hello MRS CHRISTINE WILLIAMS

The Illustrated History of Sidcup

Local historian and well-respected author John Mercer has released his ninth book delving into the history of an area he knows so well. 'Sidcup and Foots Cray: A History’ is a full-colour, illustrated insight into the south-east London suburb, bringing history and memories to life with the help of over fifty images and maps.

The Illustrated History of Sidcup

Foots Cray dates back to the Domesday Book, taking its name from the Saxon landowner and the River Cray. From it Sidcup grew, and from a tiny hamlet it turned into a residential suburb of south-east London, ultimately dwarfing Foots Cray. 'Challenging' Exam Changes for GCSE's

An overhaul of GCSEs in England has been announced by Education Secretary Michael Gove in a bid to raise standards and "compete with the best in the world".

'Challenging' Exam Changes for GCSE's

The reforms wil [...]

The Screen-Based Generation

According to a UK survey by the National Literacy Trust, young people are now more likely to read on their computer screens than pick up a printed book or magazine. As well as social networking and browsing websites, almost a third of youngsters now read fiction on online devices. Is the world of curling up with a good book or magazine in hand now dead?

The Screen-Based Generation

The National Literacy Trust studied almost 35,000 young people aged between 8 and 16 years old and their findings have painted a picture of a generation who are now immersed in a screen-based culture. The developments in mobile phones, computers and tablet devices have made accessing information one of the easiest things to do and it seems reading is now an activity more likely to be done on scree [...]
