The Navy is inaugurating its first squadron with unmanned aircraft, formally adopting drone technology amid debate over its growing use in warfare.Military officials will launch the maritime strike squadron called "Magicians" on Thursday at the Naval Air Station North Island base on Coronado, near San Diego. The squadron will have eight manned helicopters and a still-to-be-determined number of the Fire Scout MQ-8 B, an unmanned helicopter that can fly 12 continuous hours, tracking targets.Lt. Aaron Kakiel says the squadron will be aboard the Navy's new littoral combat ship in about a year.He says most Navy drones now are operated by contractors overseen by military personnel. The squadron's creation comes 100 years after the formation of the first Navy air detachment. The Air Force has various drone squadrons. a year later, neither side in the contraception debate was happy with the FDA's surprise twist, which many perceived as an attempt to find a palatable middle ground between imposing an age limit of 17 and imposing no limit at all.Any over-the-counter access marks a long-awaited change, but it's not enough, said Dr. Cora Breuner of the American Academy of Pediatrics, which supports nonprescription sale of the morning-after pill for all ages."We still have the major issue, which is our teen pregnancy rate is still too high," Breuner said.Even though few young girls likely would use Plan B, which costs about $50 for a single pill, "we know that it is safe for those under 15," she said. Most 17- to 19-year-olds are sexually active, and 30 percent of 15- and 16-year-olds have had sex, according to a study published last month by the journal Pediatrics. Sex is much rarer among younger teens. Likewise, older teens have a higher pregnancy rate, but that study also counted more than 110,000 pregnancies among 15- and 16-year-olds in 2008 alone.Contraception advocates see a double standard. No one is carded when buying a condom, but under the FDA's decision they would have to prove their age when buying a pill to prevent pregnancy if that condom breaks."This isn't a compromise. This is wrong," said Cynthia Pearson of the National Women's Health Network.Social conservatives were outraged by the FDA's move to lower the age limits for Plan B -- as w ------=Part.86.4562.1384703727 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit Content-Type: text/html; charset=us-ascii Light Angel — The Motion Activated Stick Up LED Light

The number of Americans seeking unemployment aid fell last week to seasonally adjusted 324,000, the lowest since January 2008. The drop points to fewer layoffs and possibly more hiring. The Labor Department says weekly applications fell 18,000, the second straight sharp drop. The four-week average, a less volatile measure, plummeted 16,000 to 342,250.Applications are a proxy for layoffs. But fewer job cuts are only one side of the equation: Companies also need to be confident enough to add workers for job growth to pick up and lower the unemployment rate.Economists forecast that the economy added 160,000 jobs last month. That's much better than the 88,000 added in March, but below last year's pace of nearly 185,000 per month. The unemployment rate is expected to remain unchanged at 7.6 percent. The government will release the April employment report Friday.Weekly applications at or below 350,000 are generally consistent with moderate hiring. But other reports have signaled a worsening jobs picture. On Wednesday, payroll provider ADP said companies added just 119,000 jobs in April. And a survey of manufacturers by the Institute for Supply Management found that a measure of employment fell sharply last month. Many companies have been advertising more jobs but have been slow to fill them. Job openings jumped 11 percent during the 12 months that ended in February, but the number of people hired declined, according to a Labor Department report l MOSCOW Kazakhstan's Foreign Ministry says it is cooperating with the United States in the case of two of its citizens arrested in connection with the Boston Marathon bombing.Dias Kadyrbayev and Azamat Tazhayakov were university friends of bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev. They were charged Wednesday with attempting to destroy evidence by disposing of a backpack and laptop computer taken from his room after they found he was a suspect in the fatal bombing. On Thursday, the Kazakh foreign ministry issued a statement saying "Both Kadyrbayev and Tazhayakov are cooperating with the investigative bodies and providing them assistance.""As we have repeatedly stressed, Kazakhstan strongly condemns any form of terrorism. The Kazakhstan side is cooperating with the U.S. law enforcement bodies in their investigation," the ministry said.
