This is part of the government's strategic goals for 2014.=C2=A0I= t will be called the Agency of Science Communication, Technology and Innova= tion of Argentina (ACCTINA), and should be formally launched by the end of = this year, if things go smoothly, according to Vera Brudny, head of the pro= ject at the ministry.=C2=A0On the sidelines of PCST2014, ACCTINA will repla= ce the National Program for Science Popularisation. Though it's not clear e= xactly what the significance of the move is yet, it seems to signal that th= e government is =0Aplacing increased importance on science communication. It will be called the Agency of Science Communi= cation, Technology and Innovation of Argentina (ACCTINA), and should be for= mally launched by the end of this year, if things go smoothly, according to= Vera Brudny, head of the project at the ministry.
 
On the sidelines of PCST2014, ACCTINA will replace the National Program = for Science Popularisation. Though it’s not clear exactly what the si= gnificance of the move is yet, it seems to signal that the government is pl= acing increased importance on science communication. Brudny told me that it= will allow for an increase in the quality and quantity of science communic= ation activities in Argentina.

The government's pressure on= those who are critical of its decisions appears to be increasing, as the n= umber of academics who have been fired from their university positions is g= rowing.
 
Professor and columnist Osman Özsoy= , who was vocal in his criticism of the government and its anti-democratic = measures after a corruption scandal erupted on Dec. 17, 2013, was fired lat= er that month by the Yeni =C5=9Eafak daily apparently as a result of &ldquo= ;instructions from above,” and then dismissed from Haliç Unive= rsity, where he taught public relations, in April.

On May 22, 2014, Meridian International Center an= d the Embassy of the United Arab Emirates will open Past Forward: Co= ntemporary Art from the Emirates. The first major touring exhibition of Emi= rati artwork – which features over 50 paintings, photographs, sculptu= res, video installations, and other media by 25 Emirati artists – wil= l showcase the creativity radiating throughout the Emirati art scene and hi= ghlight the development and history of the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
