Background: When I last installed my Debian Linux operating system, I chose to use a lojbanized version of my name for the Full Name field of the user information: .a,lekSANdr.koJEVni,kov. (Sidenote: As I understand it, the commas are there to indicate non-obvious syllable boundaries. I am not aware that either, let alone both, of those commas can be elided from my name without introducing ambiguity.) The problem is aesthetic: Linux stores the user's full name in the /etc/passwd file, in the "gecos" field. If follows a specific historical convention for that field, namely, it treats commas in this field as a delimeter for various optional subfields (of which the full name is the first). The result is that my full name shows up as "a" anywhere where that gets used. Not a big deal, but annoying. Regards, la .a,lekSANdr.koJEVni,kov.
