=0A Recently I submitted an = article to the 11/23/2015 issue of C&EN on "=0A = Building Global Relationships."  It was striking to notice tha= t so many of our activities deal with relationship building. Indeed, in the= globalized world today, we need to build friendships, collaborate in resea= rch, exchange and educational programs, organize and participate in meeting= s, involve in outreach and publicity, and grow our International Chapters i= n order to serve our international members and promote the global chemistry= enterprise. =0A

=0A=0A =0A
=0A = I am pleased to report that since the Boston nationa= l meeting our IAC colleagues and OIA staff have continued to execute numero= us relationship-building activities, including the Chemical Sciences and So= ciety Summit in Germany in September; the October launch of the new Interna= tional Chapter in Taiwan; the BOOST Trainer Institute in Thailand in Octobe= r; Chemistry Festivals in Nigeria in September and Mexico in October; a Gii= workshop on the Niger River water issues in =0ANovember; and a planned sum= mit of ACS International Chapters' representatives in December.  On th= e collaboration front, the joint IAC/DAC white paper was finalized and plac= ed on the web. IAC, CPT, and SOCED agreed to continue the joint Task Force = on International Chemistry Education in 2016.  The new ACS Internation= al Center was re-launched in October on WordPress platform at =0A = https://global.acs.org.   We should salute our = hardworking ACS staff and committee colleagues for their continuing efforts= on behalf of the global chemistry community.=0A =

=0A As I conclude my three ye= ars as IAC Chair, I would like to thank all of you for your friendship, col= laboration, support, and hard work.  We have had quite a bit of fun to= gether and also accomplished a lot.  Personally it has been a privileg= e and pleasure to have met and worked with so many of you.  =0A =

=0A = With generous support from the National Science Foundatio= n, the ACS Office of International Activities is pleased to announce the 20= 16 IREU application. U.S. undergraduate students in chemistry, chemical eng= ineering or materials sciences who are interested in an international resea= rch experience are welcome to apply. Funded by NSF, the IREU program places= rising sophomore or junior students in top labs in Italy, Germany, Singapo= re or the United Kingdom for ten weeks. =0AThe program includes round-trip = international travel, a housing and living stipend while abroad, an orienta= tion at ACS headquarters in Washington and participation in the 2017 ACS sp= ring meeting. Women and underrepresented students in the sciences are encou= raged to apply. Learn more about the IREU program and apply at =0A = www.acs.org/ireu.  Deadline for completed app= lications is January 25,2016. =0A

= =0A The=0A 2015 Open Doors Report on Internati= onal Educational Exchange was released last month and found t= he number of international students at U.S. colleges and universities had t= he highest rate of growth in 35 years, increasing by ten percent to a recor= d high of 974,926 students in the 2014/15 academic year. The United States = hosts more of the world's 4.5 million globally mobile college and universit= y students than any other country in the world, almost double the number ho= sted by the United Kingdom, the second leading host country. The repor= t also =0Afound the number of U.S. students studying abroad increased by fi= ve percent in 2013/14, the highest rate of growth since before the 2008 eco= nomic downturn.
