Samsung’s mythical foldable smartphone might actually see the light of day, according to a report from the Korea Herald. The Herald’s source claims that the long-rumoured flexible smartphone will be launched in Q3 this year, after three years of development. That, however, is dependent on Samsung making a final decision on the device’s “marketability and profitability, which could mean that it’s never released at all.

It does ring, strange, however that the Korean manufacturer would be still be deliberating on whether or not a major, game-changing device that’s awkward to manufacture will be released in 9 months. This is a rumour, though, so treat it with caution. So what can we expect from the presumptively named 'Galaxy X'? The reports suggest a smartphone (size unknown) that folds out into a 7-inch tablet once ‘opened’. The Herald report is thin on technical details but previous patents and leaks provide a better image of what to expect. The main thing is that the display is likely to be OLED, Samsung revealed its rollable OLED display tech at SID last year - so there's little doubt about that.

Amazon's Alexa is making its way into a number of new areas lately, but it's arguably the unofficial projects taking advantage of the AI assistant that end up being the most interesting. For example, did you know that Alexa is now a spaceship AI assistant in the video game Elite: Dangerous? Elite: Dangerous is a space adventure game which includes trading and combat simulation that's available to play on Windows, OS X, Xbox One, and PS4$399.99 at Best Buy. New players are given a spaceship and some cash and tasked with surviving in an open galaxy. It's an extremely popular game, having sold more than 1.7 copies since it was first released back in late 2014. Traveling alone through space can get lonely, so having a vocal assistant on hand to interact with sounds like a feature many players would enjoy. It would also enhance the overall control of the game if you could use your voice as well as hands on a keyboard/joypad to carry out tasks. So, Elite: Dangerous player Austin Wilson set about implementing such a system, and he chose Alexa as his ideal assistant.
