Roughly = 200 people joined ten ACS International Chemical Sciences Chapters (ICSCs) = for the Inaugural Asia-Pacific International Chapters Conference in Jeju, S= outh Korea from November 5 – 8, in conjunction with the HPLC 2017 mee= ting. Highlights of the event were a plenary lecture by ACS President Dr. A= llison Campbell, the first ACS Chemistry Festival held in South Korea, and = a plenary lecture by Nobel Laureate Sir Fraser Stoddart. Afterwards, the AC= S ICSCs and International Student Chapters met for =0Aan officers' summit t= o begin plans for future regional meetings and events. Each attending delegation will apply to fund Chemistry Festivals in their= home nations during 2018. This program is for 10-12 wee= k industrial internships for up to 32 college sophomores and juniors. These= summer 2018 internships will focus on practical, industry-focused projects= . Participating students receive compensation of $6,000-$10,000, plus a $1,= 000 stipend, and can nominate a high school chemistry teacher for recogniti= on and an award of $1,000 for professional development or materials. Additi= onal benefits vary by position. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permane= nt residents, chemistry =0Aor chemical engineering majors, and have GPAs of= at least a 3.5. Application deadline is November 30.
