Hello, Everyone... Since last fall I have been getting many, many inquiries about where t= o locate professional editors and proofers at affordable prices. Do I = know any? Can I refer them? Does this sound like you: "I just need someone to copy edit a 30,000 w= ord manuscript... $1,500 is just too much! And then on top another $50= 0 to proof it?" Frankly I had never really put any thought to this much ignored piece = of the puzzle. I had a few excellent people to do this work, and that = was that. But, with publishers being squeezed between lower revenues a= nd higher costs, (and printers going out of business at an amazing rat= e) it makes sense that editors and proofers, even part time people, ha= ve been let go in favor of contract workers. I did some research and determined what exactly would be an affordable= price for this work. Then, I started asking around to my own people a= nd discovered that, for a steady stream of work they would agree to ho= nor this pricing. And, from what I have seen, go ahead and compare... = this pricing is VERY Affordable and VERY Competitive. How does $600 sound, all in, for copy editing AND proofing a 30,000 wo= rd non-fiction manuscript. Two cents a word. Period. I have never quite understood the concept of hourly charges, but after= some discussions with editors who do content edits for fiction works,= I can understand better. So, for content editing for fiction work, yo= u will have to send it to us and we'll get you a firm quote after our = people review it. BUT... Copy editing... Two Cents a word. If you just need professional copy editing and proofreading, we CAN ma= ke a firm quote, right now, for our newsletter readers... the only exc= eption will be for fiction where the writer has created a new language= , a la Harry Potter. It just takes more time to work through that kind= of material. Otherwise, TWO CENTS a word... ($100 minimum charge). And that include= s copy editing AND proofreading. I feel fortunate to have assembled a small but "deep in experience" te= am of editors and proofers... on the fiction side I have an editor ret= ired from a major house who handled a few long term fiction bestseller= authors; I also have a long term successful writer who has been editi= ng now for over 20 years. On the non fiction side I have two editor/pr= oofers, one who has copy edited over 300 non fiction books and content= edited (actually rewritten) over 30 titles; and a second who has been= editing/proofing for advertising and marketing services now for almos= t 30 years. Hello, Everyone…

Since last fall I have been getting many, many inquiri= es about where to locate professional editors and proofers at affordab= le prices. Do I know any? Can I refer them?

Does this sound like you: “I just need someone t= o copy edit a 30,000 word manuscript… $1,500 is just too much! = And then on top another $500 to proof it?”

Frankly I had never really put any thought to this muc= h ignored piece of the puzzle. I had a few excellent people to do this= work, and that was that. Otherwise, TWO CENTS a word… ($100 minimum charge). And that= includes copy editing AND proofreading.

I feel fortunate to have assembled a small but “= deep in experience” team of editors and proofers… on the = fiction side I have an editor retired from a major house who handled a= few long term fiction bestseller authors; I also have a long term suc= cessful writer who has been editing now for over 20 years.
