atives gained access to
the family's property in Groveland, just 26 miles from the park's entrance,
on Saturday and was able to confirm their vacation cabin had burned
to the ground. The family saw firefighters on a TV news report a
day earlier defending the cabin."It's just mind-blowing the way the fire
swept through and destroyed it so quickly," said Sanderson, who's been monitoring
the fire from her home near Tampa Bay, Fla. "The only thing
left standing is our barbeque pit."The Rim Fire has burned nearly 200
square miles -- an area about the size of Chicago. It started
in a remote canyon of the Stanislaus National Forest Aug. 17 and
is just 5 percent contained. Its cause was under investigation. The fire
has grown so large and is burning dry timber and brush with
such ferocity that it has created its own weather pattern, making it
difficult to predict in which direction it will move."As the smoke column
builds up it breaks down and collapses inside of itself, sending downdrafts
and gusts that can go in any direction," said Daniel Berlant, a
spokesman for the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.
"There's a lot of potential for this one to continue to grow."The
tourist mecca of Yosemite Valley, the part of the park known around
the world for such sights as the Half Dome and El Capitan
rock formations and waterfalls, remained open, clear of smoke and free from
other signs of the fire that remained about 20 miles away.

successful," Schneiderman said.At the seminars, consumers were told about
"Trump Elite" mentorships that cost $10,000 to $35,000. Students were promised
individual instruction until they made their first deal. Schneiderman said
participants were urged to extend the limit on their credit cards for
real estate deals, but then used the credit to pay for the
Trump Elite programs. The attorney general said the program also failed
to promptly cancel memberships as promised.

GROVELAND, Calif. Firefighters braced for strong winds that could push
a raging wildfire further into the northwest edge of Yosemite National Park,
threatening thousands of rural homes. The massive blaze was also burning
Saturday in the vicinity of two groves of giant sequoias that are
unique the region, prompting park employees to take extra precautions of
clearing brush and setting sprinklers. The towering trees, which grow only
on the western slopes of the Sierra Nevada and are among the
largest and oldest living things on earth, can resist fire. However, dry
conditions and heavy brush are forcing park officials to take extra precautions
in the Tuolumne and Merced groves. About three dozen of the trees
are affected."All of the plants and trees in Yosemite are important, but
the giant sequoias are incredibly important both for what they are and
as symbols of the National Park System," park spokesman Scott Gediman said
Saturday. The Rim Fire has burned 203 square miles an area
about the size of Chicago and was just 7
percent contained late Saturday night. It started in a remote canyon of
the Stanislaus National Forest Aug. 17 and grew rapidly under dry conditions. The
fire has grown so large and is burning dry timber and brush
with such ferocity that it has created its own weather pattern, making
it difficult to predict in which direction it will move. Steep, inaccessible
terrain was hampering firefighter's effort to surround it.With
The mischaracterization of the alleged violence by Chancey Luna, Michael
Jones and James Edwards began when one of the trio claimed they
had hunted down and shot dead Australian Chris Lane because they were
bored. The statement is so devoid of humanity and so headline-ready that
the media seized upon it as a literal and complete explanation for
why these three accused killers acted so inhumanely. But the statement is
a smokescreen. Boredomof the kind sane people experiencehad nothing, whatsoever,
to do with Lanes death and explains nothing about how it happened. When
normal people are bored, they go to the movies, go shopping or
skateboarding or take a drive to the beach. Only when people are
severely psychologically disordered do they think up murder as an antidote
to boredom. Only when extraordinarily disordered patterns of thought, feeling
or perception fill ones mind does the vacuum of boredom draw someone
to the idea of using a gun to shoot a stranger in
the head. Chancey Luna, Michael Jones and James Edwards, if guilty, are
not normal. So we should not be surprised, nor take at face
value, the self-report that they killed out of boredom, because that excuse
emerges from a person who is psychologically shattered and unaware enough
to pump a bullet into another mans skull. So why would these three
allegedly do this if it had nothing to do with boredom? Probably
because Chris Lane, a strong man running the streets on a bright
day, was
