As I spent sooo much time on the tower (well only 2 hours - but after a boat journey the kids were wanting to leave and the relatives were waiting) it was time to leave. A shame because thats a couple birds left in the bank - realistically I wanted the citrine Wagtail an hour or so north of Helsinki. I followed the sat nav, stopped the car and there was a River Warbler with Thrush Nightingale the other side of the road. Time was limited as were views but at least I have a morning route planned - a sniff of Greenish Warbler (heard but not seen as next to busy road just off the town centre), Ural Owl (pensive) and a Little Crake a further 30 mins away - the problem is we head off for a few days in the morning so grabbing some time is difficult. There is a calling Little Crake en-route so took the opportunity to stop at Otajarvi, Rauma. A great site that is imense. How on earth they can spot even 10 percent of whats here I have no idea. Unlikely that I was going to hear or spot my Little Crake -it was midday but I was content with the birds on offer. Various Marsh Harriers - at least 4. Some being mobbed by various Little Gulls, Terns even a Hobby that itself was being mobbed by a Tern and then one male mobbing a White Tailed Eagle - Superb. I got some very distant shots but then they are big birds. There were a few Cranes about aswell. I seriously reckon you could spend a few days here to cover the marshes, lake and surrounding fields. The only other person with binos was my daughter who was content with GS Wood.
