I think Gibraltar and Murcia (Cabo de Palos) would be the closest destinations with some decent dive sites, not aware of anything closer. Murcia is a longer drive but given the car queues in & out of Gibraltar (you could always cross on foot if you're not hauling heavy equipment) the two trips might end up having the same duration. Cabo de Palos has a few wrecks and there is also a diveable marine park around there too, although i can't remember it's name. I don't think it's spectacular, but then again it is the med, so it's neI did a caribbean cruise and took my kit inc bcd, reg & wetsuit. you can either do the tourist dives with the muppets from the ship or use the internet to book with a local dive centre and hop in a taxi when the boat docks. Depending on the dives on offer I did both. where are you stopping on the cruise? I worked on ships cruising around the Caribbean for a few years (and recently went out to visit my other half while she was away on contract on a ship). If you can avoid booking with the ship, I would. Where are you headed? If I've dived there, I can let you know who i used, etc.
I always had my own kit (minus s and cylinders), and if I can get it to dry out in a crew cabin, you should have no issue in a guest cabin. I even took my drysuit when I went to visit my mrs.ver going to be right I dived with a centre in Marbella about 9 years ago. They bussed us down to a Spanish dive centre in La Linea for most of the time, diving wrecks around Gibraltar (but access to some wrecks was prohibited as they were a spanish outfit).
