If y= ou've ever noticed what looks like a small skin-colored or dark growth on y= our body, chances are you're looking at an acrochordon, commonly known as a= skin tag. It's a familiar sight as you age: Close to half of all adults ha= ve skin tags, and the risk of developing them increases as you get older, u= sually until you reach your 70s. Skin tags tend to develop in skin-fold are= as, such as the underarms, neck, eyelids, groin, and under the breasts. Alt= hough anyone can get them, they're more common among obese people; it's tho= ught that the friction occurring when skin folds rub together can cause the= tags to form. People with diabetes also have a higher rate of skin-tag gro= wth, possibly caused by insulin resistance. Some evidence suggests that the= y may be a marker for cardiovascular disease. Pregnancy is another time whe= n skin tags often develop (although they tend to shrink after delivery). ? = The development of skin tags may be genetic or part of the normal aging pro= cess and usually does not indicate any underlying health problem,? says Gre= gory Henderson, M.D., Ph.D., a dermatologist and health sciences clinical i= nstructor with UCLA Dermatology in Palos Verdes, Calif. ? Skin tags also do= n't discriminate when it comes to gender, with men and women equally affect= ed by them.?

Anatomy of a skin tag Attached to the skin by little ?= stalks,? skin tags can grow to 1 to 2 centimeters or larger. Tiny as they = are, skin tags can be a big nuisance, and many people find them unsightly. = Although usually not painful, they can catch on clothing and jewelry, causi= ng irritation. However, if a skin tag becomes twisted at the blood supply l= ocation, causing tissue to die, it can darken and become painful, although = this is uncommon. ? If you want a skin tag removed because you don't like t= he way it looks, or it's causing discomfort, it's important that you see yo= ur doctor,? Henderson says. ? The tag has its own blood supply, and you cou= ld end up bleeding quite a bit if you attempt to remove a large skin tag on= your own. You're also leaving yourself open to infection.? Your dermatolog= ist can remove the tag in one of three ways: snipping it with medical sciss= ors and forceps, burning it (electrocautery), or freezing it (cryosurgery).= ? Any of these methods work well and, with anesthetic, should be relativel= y painless. And the skin tag likely won't grow back,? Henderson says. A cos= metic procedure Skin-tag removal is sometimes considered a cosmetic procedu= re, so your health insurance or Medicare may not cover treatment unless it'= s deemed a medical necessity? for example, if you have a limited number of = symptomatic skin tags or your doctor suspects one may be cancerous.
P= romo block And stay away from over-the-counter products to remove skin tags= ; they work by killing the unwanted skin and can cause irritation, bleeding= , or infection. And they should never be used around the eye area. If you h= ave a skin tag, check the growth from time to time. See your doctor if you = notice any change, such as enlarging or darkening, or if it becomes painful= A clinical exam and possibly a biopsy can help rule out cancer or any oth= er skin condition that might require treatment. Skin tags are bits of benig= n skin growth that hang from the surrounding skin by a narrow stalk. Skin t= ags can be smooth or wrinkled, flesh colored or slightly brown, and usually= irregular in shape.

Skin tags may appear on any part of the human b= ody. They are more often found on the neck, groin, armpits, eyelids, and un= der the breasts, and other areas where skin frequently rubs against skin or= clothing. If a skin tag is irritating or cosmetically unwanted, it can be = removed through one of these most common methods: freezing and dehydration = methods desiccate skin growths. Home remedies are also widely available, bu= t it is important that you consult a doctor before trying to remove your sk= in tag at home. Unfortunately, about 90% of our patients are those who have= had disappointing experience with the skin tag removal of home remedies. S= ome found that they simply didn't work and some received unsightly scarring= Are the skin growths safe to remove? In most cases, skin growths are non-= cancerous and can be safely removed. The treatment is performed by a profes= sional, certified technician who has been trained to identify the different= types of skin growths appropriate for the treatment. All treatments are pe= rformed using the strictest sanitary procedures. How does it work? Cyrother= apy is a skin tag removal treatment using liquid nitrogen that freezes the = skin tag. The results of this procedure depend greatly on the technicians' = skill and experience, especially when removing skin tags around the eyes. S= carring or discoloration could result from the procedure if the liquid nitr= ogen is applied excessively.

The Super Frecator RU200 uses a high fr= equency electrical current that delivers a precise spark through a micro-ne= edle to cauterize, dehydrate, and desiccate skin growths. During the proced= ure the micro-needle remains above the skin surface; it does not penetrate = the skin. As the growth is removed, a natural protective coating or scab de= velops that covers the treated area. Within a week or two, the scab will fa= ll off and be replaced by healthy new skin cells, and will gradually take o= n the color of the surrounding tissue. In most cases, there is no visible i= ndication of the previous growth. Is the treatment permanent? Yes! Once a s= kin growth has been treated with the Super Frecator it does not return. How= ever, if your skin is prone to these types of growths, new ones may appear = elsewhere on your face and body.
