A ski= n tag is a small piece of benign tissue that hangs from the skin, according= to Cleveland Clinic. Skin tags are most commonly found on parts of the bod= y where the skin may fold, such as the groin, armpits, the neck and underne= ath breasts. While skin tag are not dangerous, they can become irritated by= clothing and you may be self-conscious of them.
Step 1 Identify the = skin tag. Make sure the skin tag isn't a mole or other skin lesion. DermNet= NZ says skin tags can be the same tone as your skin or slightly darker and= will range from 1 to 5mm in size. Look for the connecting tissue or "= stalk" between the skin tag and the body's skin. Step 2 Use dental fl= oss to tie off the skin tag. Place a piece of dental floss around the neck = of the skin tag, just above your natural skin. This method ensures you will= remove the skin tag and its stalk. Knot the floss around the tag, tight en= ough to cut off circulation. Step 3 Check the area around the skin tag dail= y. Do not touch the skin tag or the dental floss. The skin tag should fall = off within a week. Step 4 Recheck the dental floss if the skin tag has not = fallen off after a week. It is possible that you did not tie the dental flo= ss tight enough to cut off the blood supply to the skin tag. If the skin ta= g has a large base, you may not be able to cut off the circulation. Skin ta= gs are tiny benign skin lesions found in areas around the neck, groin and a= rmpit. They can be caused by a virus; a hormonal imbalance; or the friction= of something rubbing against your skin, such as a piece of jewelry or a ca= r seat belt. Unlike inflammatory skin disorders, skin tags are not painful = unless something rubs against or cuts them. If you are bothered by unsightl= y skin tags, one of the simplest treatments is to remove them with thread o= r dental floss, according to dermatologists at the Skin Center website.
Step 1 Pour isopropyl alcohol onto a sterile gauze pad and wipe the area= around the skin tag.
Step 2 Cut a piece of thread or dental floss an= d wipe it with isopropyl alcohol. Step 3 Loop the clean thread or floss aro= und the skin tag. Position the thread as close to the base of the skin tag = as possible. tep 4 Tie the thread into a tight knot and then tie another kn= ot so it will not come loose. Step 5 Trim the ends of the thread or floss w= ith scissors wiped with alcohol so the ends do not catch on anything. Step = 6 Wait several days to one week until the skin tag falls off. The thread sh= ould inhibit the blood supply to the skin tag, causing it to wither and die= Step 7 Apply isopropyl alcohol to the area during the waiting period to k= eep it germ-free.
Step 8 Apply peroxide or antibacterial ointment to = the area after the skin tag falls off. Repeat until the area heals complete= ly.
Step 9 Cover the area with a sterile bandage or sterile gauze aft= er the skin tag falls off until it heals completely. Skin tags are small, s= oft, movable pieces of skin or tissue that protrude from the surrounding sk= in and are connected by a small stalk that has tiny nerves and blood vessel= s in it. Skin tags are harmless and commonly occur in skin folds and the ar= mpits, on the neck and eyelids, under the breasts and on the back and abdom= en. Women and obese people get them more frequently, and they can be caused= by anything from hormonal changes to heredity.
Herbal Remedies

<= p>You can use a variety of herbs to remove a skin tag at home. Covering the= skin tag with a mashed garlic clove and then securing it with a bandage ni= ghtly can help dry the skin tag out and cause it to fall off, according to = Fat Free Kitchen. Soaking the tag in tea tree oil or apple cider vinegar th= ree times daily can also dry it out. Bloodroot is one of the most effective= herbs to remove skin tags. Put bloodroot paste over the tag, and then cove= r it with a bandage; leave the bandage on until the tag falls off. But usin= g it comes with some risks, according to the online magazine Love to Know S= kincare. It can be damaging to healthy tissue, so be sure to only put it on= the affected area. Also avoid using it on your eyelids or nose, and don't = use at all if you are pregnant.
Cutting Off Skin Tags

You can = remove a skin tag quickly by cutting it off. Cleanse the skin tag thoroughl= y, and then gently pull it away from the surrounding surface with a pair of= tweezers. Take a pair of sterile scissors, cut the tag at the base of the = skin and then quickly apply pressure with a cotton ball or towel to control= the bleeding. This is the U.S. Navy-recommended method, but it will cause = some pain and discomfort, according to Love to Know Skincare. An alternate = method involves cutting off the skin tag's blood supply with a string or de= ntal floss. Without a blood supply, the tag will eventually fall off, accor= ding to Easy Skin Tag Removal. Tie the string as closely to the base of the= tag as possible and as tightly as possible to ensure there's no blood flow= The tag typically will fall off within a week.
Over-the-Counter So= lutions

Many over-the-counter wart- and mole-remover solutions are a= lso effective on skin tags. Applying Dermisil to the skin tag daily will ca= use it to fall off within several weeks. Dermatend is another common skin t= ag solution. Apply it nightly, and the skin tag will turn into a scab befor= e falling off. You can purchase over-the-counter skin tag solutions at any = drug store.
