I could use some help!! deny that i'm an optimist, though am still open to reason. who are the people that are systematically ingraining oppressive behavior into society? racism is taken seriously by most these days. the amount of people protesting shows that we are a progressive society against it. perhaps destruction could raise levels of awareness. however, destruction doesn't necessarily lead to substantive change in status quo. nonviolent movements are an option that everyone can get behind and have the increased potential to have long-term efforts. it presents fewer obstacles to moral and physical involvement, while violence will sought to be shut down and can damage the positive image of the cause behind it. erica chenoweth has done extensive research in violent vs. nonviolent movements and found that nonviolent movements are increasingly becoming more effective than violent ones.
