She walked slowly, watching the night = sky. Ding! Suddenly, she bumps her head on the metal door. She takes a good= look at it and realizes that it was actually a beautiful door. She rubs he= r forehead with her left arm and tells herself that she should be more care= ful. More like we should get out of here. The other one says. She takes a d= eep breath and keeps on walking. It was a very small town. Hardly had no ta= ll buildings. At least where she was there were no tall buildings. The road= was also empty. But it looked beautiful as the darkness and the lights ble= nded in. No need to look for traffic, just cross the road.  She feels = strange and remembers that the only place she feels at home is in a library= As she walks slowly around the campus, she can hear the crickets, all the= animals of the night awake, chatting away through the silence.

= =20

Wait, isn't campus supposed to be = busy at night? She wonders as she walks across the empty halls. J= ust as she is wondering a group of 3 boys pass her. Obviously very drunk, a= ttempting to find their way. Cat stops and moves aside, she stares at them = with a smile. I wonder what it feels like to be drunk, she wonders. As if n= ature wants to remind her, she keeps walking enjoying the night. The stars = were shining brighter and the night had a very strange aura. The campus des= pite being located at the heart of the town, felt like it was located in an= extremely serene environment. The campus itself wasn't what cat expected i= n campus, it was rather small for a university. In her mind, a campus was s= upposed to be huge, with all those beautifully and creatively designed arch= itectural buildings. But this one, this one did not seem to have any landma= rks. She would even bet on her life that it was smaller than her high schoo= l. Nevertheless, Cat loved the environment, the silence. She was addicted t= o silence. That was why the only place she thought of was the library. Just= as she got there, she got hope. The lights were shining. What she loved mo= st about this library was the garden. Very green and beautifully taken care= of. She would feel calm reading her book there. However, the building was = rather basic. Just a simple building. In fact, what eked cat more, was the = fact that the library was only one floor. One tiny floor. In her head, she = pictured it as a building on its own, with very, very, very many books. Whe= re she had come from, the only library she had ever seen was the one in her= high school, and it was even tinier than a kindergarten room. So, Cat look= ed forward to going to campus so that she could spend all her time in the l= ibrary. But this library seemed to demotivate her. Once she got to the buil= ding, she looked up and stared at the night sky once more. Then she rested = her eyes on the building. The library was only two floors. The ground floor= was the library. The upper two floors were a computer lab and lecture room= s. After contemplating for a few minutes, Cat decided to enter the library.= To her surprise the library was closed. Doors shut. What the hell was she = thinking of going to a library at midnight. For heaven's sake, what did she= expect? But, she told herself, this is campus. All facilities ought to be = open 24 hours. She got disappointed and decided to go back to sleep. Howeve= r, just as she walked towards the school gate, stepping on the pebbles, ste= p by step. With the sound of silence, she could hear her steps.  Sudde= nly, Mmmh! Someone cleared their throat. Every being in her body, was sudde= nly up at attention. She turned around slowly but couldn't see anyone. I sw= ear I heard something. Well, I must be dreaming. She thought. This silence = is going to be the end of me. But then, a light was strike. This time, she = knew it, there was someone. So, she walked towards the back of the library.= And true to her eyes, there was a man, smoking a cigarette staring directl= y at her. Her immediate reaction was curiosity. She was star-struck. This s= urprised her considering how aware she was of men. She knew men were no goo= d. They were bad news, and it was best to stay away. However, she couldn't = help but be attracted. She thought it strange, also considering it was the = middle of the night and this was a stranger. She stood there fixated, stare= d back at this mysterious guy. Much to her surprise, he smiled.

= =20

?So?? he said to her

=20

?So? ?

=20

?shouldn't you be sleeping?? oh my, he= re we go again.

=20

?excuse me? Who are you? In fact, who = do you think you are to tell me what I should be doing??

=20

She is a sensitive one this one, he mu= mbled to himself.

=20

?Sorry. I meant what brings you to the= library at such an hour??

=20

?you know, books. What else??=20

?so, you are one of those bookworms??<= /span>

=20

?Which ones?? she asked him. This time= , she had already gotten over her shock and decided to move closer to take = a good look at him. The man was dark in complexion. Strongly built with a v= ery magnificent body. His smile was very charming. It never quite opened up= , to allow you to see his teeth. As if they were connected, he brought her = a chair to sit on.

=20

?I don't like reading. In fact, I can'= t say I have done much reading in my life. Here have a seat? he ushered to = her. He placed the seat in the middle of the library garden, where the ligh= ts were brighter and the sky visible. Cat hesitated but sat down anyway. Th= is was going to be interesting.

=20

?so, you don't like books,? she asked = him.

=20

?If I didn't like them, I wouldn't be = here now would I be??

=20

?which ?here' do you mean?? she asked = him. He stared at her and smiled, this time, you could see his teeth.

=20

?he brought another chair and set it n= ext to her. Cat had not forgotten that she caught him smoking, the art of s= moking had always fascinated her. But, she had never quite had the guts to = try it herself. Hell, she had never even drunk alcohol. If her friends knew= that, they would probably laugh at her. She needed to change friends, a th= ought.

=20

?So, do you love music?? he asked her.=

=20

?yes, I do, soft rock is my favorite?<= /span>

=20

He stared at her and smiled. God, she = is pretty, he thought to himself.

=20

?well, let me show you my world of boo= ks.?

=20

He took out his phone and opened YouTu= be. According to the few rock songs he knew, he decided to play one for her= He chose a song. Complicated by Avril Lavigne. Oddly enough, Cat loved th= at song. They listened together as they watched the video and sang together= The night was turning out better than she had expected.

=20

?I love this song,? she said to him. T= hey listened slowly to the music and momentarily, they both drifted and loo= ked towards the sky. There was just something about the sky. They talked an= d laughed away while listening to music. Suddenly, it dawned on Cat, it was= late.

=20

Smiling she looked at him.

= =20

?You know, I don't think I have ever h= ad so much fun in my life.? She told him. He smiled,

=20

?I had fun too.?

=20

?I better get some sleep, early day to= morrow.?

=20

? Okay, let me walk you.?

= =20

They walked through the gravel, starin= g at the campus. Discussing, laughing. Just by staring at them, you could t= ell that love lived there. You could see life in their eyes. After they cro= ssed the road, they sat under a tree and hugged. Cats heart beat faster, th= is was strange, she immediately felt at home. She felt so tiny in his embra= ce. Somehow, she loved that. She felt safe under his embrace. He couldn't s= top holding her. He felt like it was a dream. He hoped to stay that way, fo= r the longest he could hold on.

=20

?Well, we better go to bed, almost 2am= can you believe that??

=20

Cat told him. And immediately, they ke= pt on talking and laughing away heartedly.

=20

Suddenly, a car pulled up

= =20

?Hey! You two, what are you doing here= at this time of the night?? Cat felt happy, she just knew that she felt ha= ppy. Leo held her hand and gripped it tight. She looked at her and she knew=

=20

?It seems love couldn't let you get to= the room,? he smiles at his partner, he smiles back. ?Get in the car and w= e will give you free accommodation for the night.?

=20

Cat moved towards the car, they entere= d the backseat and he held her hand tight.

=20

?Well, look at the positive side, at l= east you now have a story to tell your children.?

=20

They both laughed. Cat was happy. Even= though they were being taken to jail, she was happy, that was all she knew= Tomorrow was another day but until then, silence.

John a thirty nine year old man always= cataloged everything he did in life. After a while John got into a routine= Happy with everything the way his life is going everything in it's place.= A good routine every day the same thing nothing out of place. Same thing every day no change he always get a black c= offee no cream four sugars. Grabs his coffee drops a tip in the jar say not= hing to any one and leaves. So different that it will mess up ever= ything for John when he arrives at work. He does everything the same way Jo= hn goes to the eight tenth floor. In his corner office with windows all the way around. He never look= s out the windows just sits down turns on his computer. Begins working afte= r checking all the note's from last night.

=20

=20

Arriving at work at ten in the morning it is a bright shinny day= Suddenly as the sky begin to go dark. John pays no attention to what is g= oing on out side a coworker walks into his office. To give him a list of po= tential candidates for the job opening they have. Before the coworker can s= ay anything she screams scaring the crap out of John.

=20

=20

Coworker: ( screaming.)

=20

John: ( What!? What is wrong with you?)

=20

=20

The coworker stuttering can not form a sentence just points to t= he window. John turns around to the window only to see. A big gray and blac= k ship hovering in the air above his city.

=20

=20

John: (What in the world is that?)

=20

=20

Coworker: ( I need to get home to my kids.)

=20

=20

John: ( No! Everything is the same we just have a ship hovering = in the air . That is it besides the, twentieth floor has not told us we can= leave.)

=20

=20

The coworker leaves in a huff mad at the fact there is a crises = out side. And not being able to go to here kids. With in about twenty minut= es of the coworker leaving his office. John's office phone rings.

=20

=20

John: ( Hello.)

=20

=20

Man on phone : ( John this is the CEO we are shutting down the b= uilding. Sending everyone home till we can figure out, what is going on. Wi= th the ship out side.)

=20

=20

John: ( There is no reason to shut everything down. Just because= of that.)

=20

=20

CEO: ( It is a crises outside. I am making the call for people t= o return home. You tell every one on your floor. I will be down to make sur= e you do.)

=20

=20

=20

John hangs up the phone looking out the window seeing his daily = routine. Going up in smoke not knowing how he will get his routine back. Jo= hn send out a email to every one on his floor. Stating.

=20

=20

John's Email: ( In accordance with the CEO of the company. I am = sending out this email because of the current crises going on out side. Eve= ryone is to head home till further notice. Thank you be safe in your travel= s.)

=20

As John send out the email to every one ships begin to leave the= mother ship. With out reading the email people see what is going on out si= de scream. Get up from their desk running for the door.John looks up to see= what is going on turns to look out the window. Becomes nervous gets up run= s to the door with every one else make it to the steps. Running down them p= assing people as he goes finally makes it to the first floor. Runs across t= he lobby out the front door looks up for a second.

Ducking in and out of ally ways looking behind him as he goes.= A ship lands long enough to drop off some alien life forms. Shoot off agai= n to join in the fire fight of the city John can not believe what is happen= ing. He gets within a block of his apartment a lady falls in front of him.<= /a>

=20

=20

John stops for a second thinking over his options of either gett= ing to safety. For a split second he thought about just running off. Instea= d he helps her not knowing who she is John brings her back to his apartment= for safety. As they make to his apartment they walk up the stair. Slowly m= aking their way to his apartment John opens the door. Helps her to his couc= h turns on the television to see what the news says.

=20

=20

News: ( There are space ships destroying the town. Aliens going = into businesses catching people. Taking them back to there ship the ones fi= ghting back. Are being shot with a laser gun and they leave nothing behind.= )

=20

=20

John: ( What is going on this is crazy?)

=20

=20

Woman: ( what do you mean this is crazy? We have been sending sh= ips to space. We have also been sending signals out there. Maybe just maybe= they took it as we want a fight.)

=20

=20

John: ( Are you crazy? Why would we tell them we want a fight? W= ho are you any way?)

=20

=20

Lady: ( My name is Amanda. I work in a deep space Laboratory. I = came here to visit my mother but she got taken. Standing right next to me.)=

=20

=20

John: ( I am sorry about your mom. Do you have any idea why they= are here?)

=20

=20

Amanda: ( They are here searching for some one.)

= =20

=20

John: ( looking for some one? Who would they be looking for? If = they are searching for one person why are they taking all these people then= ? )

=20

=20

Amanda: ( I intercepted a message from them saying they wan= t one guy.)

=20

=20

John:( One guy. Who? Who is that important?)

=20

=20

Amanda: ( I am sitting right next to him.)

= =20

=20

John: ( Me? What do they want me for?)

=20

=20

Amanda: ( They said they have been watching you for a long time.= I did not believe it so I looked your name up. I seen your picture I read = up on you. I new you stuck to a strict routine same thing every day. I new = I could run into you to see why they wanted you so bad.)

=20

=20

John: ( So you seen me read about me. Why do they want me so bad= ?)

=20

=20

Amanda: ( The only reason I can come up with off the top of my h= ead is. They way you stick to your schedule how strict you are about it.)

=20

=20

John: ( If that is the case? Then why all of this killing people= ?)

=20

=20

Amanda: ( They said if we did not respond by today they would ta= ke you by force.)

=20

=20

=20

John gets up off the couch paces back and forth trying to wrap h= is head around. What Amanda just said not believing it wondering why they w= ant him. Of all the people on earth why him Amanda watch's him going back a= nd forth. Looks over to the television see that the alien's are entering a = apartment. Looks back at John saying.

=20

=20

Amanda: ( John what apartment building is yours?)

= =20

=20

John: ( Why?)

=20

=20

Amanda: ( Look at the television.)

=20

=20

John walks back over to the couch sits down looks at the televis= ion in disbelief. Knowing that is his apartment building with a look of sho= ck on his face. He looks over to Amanda saying.

=20

=20

John: ( Well that is my building. They found me you stay here wh= ere you will be safe. I will go out to them so you wont get taken. Please w= atch over my stuff.)

=20

=20

Amanda: ( You do not have to. Make them come to you.)=

=20

=20

John: ( If I am who the truly want and it stops this madness I w= ill go.)

=20

=20

Amanda: ( Okay. Please stay safe. I will watch over your apartme= nt. Plus I will make sure everyone will know what you did to stop this.)

=20

=20

John gets up off the couch heads to the door, Amanda jumps up go= es to him giving him a kiss. John smiles Amanda smiles back at him he turns= to open the door. Walks out locking it as the aliens reach his floor. The = alien walk up to him with heavy foot steps. John turns to see them he see t= hat the are not what the movies portray them to be.

=20

=20

They are not slimy no tentacles they are not gray or green not a= ny color. The aliens are wearing a shinny metal suit with, a mask like a kn= ight would wear for battle. With some of the suit in spaces on it is black = cloth with big heavy boots. By the time John gets a picture of them .

=20

=20

The alien places its hand on his shoul= der a bright light appears around the alien. Then John plus the alien disap= pear from the apartment building. Amanda opens the door to see nothing. Tur= ns back to the television in John's apartment to see. The alien ship rising= up to leave. Back to where it came from Amanda just smiles with some tear'= s rolling down her cheeks.

=20

=20

John is placed in a room on the ship f= or some reason not scared. A moment later a very large alien enters the roo= m with John. The alien looks John up and down the says.

=20

=20

=20

Alien: ( Your language is primitive. I= have no trouble speaking it.)

=20

=20

John: ( Primitive. Well if our languag= e is so primitive. Why do you want me for?)

=20

=20

John gets up from the seat he is in st= arting to walk around the room. The alien watching his every move. John is = beginning to freak out but not showing it. Walks right up to the alien and = says with attitude in his voice.

John: (  Well tell in our pr= imitive language. What am I suppose to call you. And everyone else on this = ship I want names.)

=20

=20

Alien: ( Well my name does not transla= te in to you language. So you can call me Chief.)

=20

=20

John: ( Well Chief. What do you want w= ith me?)

=20

=20

Chief: ( I need you to return to my ho= me planet with me. To learn our ways our customs. After that we need you to= be our ambassador.)

=20

=20

John: ( Ambassador. Why me?)=20

=20

Chief: ( Because how you are so strict= with your daily routine. That to us is ambassador material and we need a a= mbassador.)

=20

=20

John: ( Why would I do that for you? A= fter what you did to my planet. Give me one good reason why and I will do i= t.)

=20

=20

Chief: (What we did to you planet is just a taste. Of what other= what you call aliens will do. To your planet and others see we need your h= elp. Your planet needs your help.)

=20

=20

John: ( Leave me. Come back in twenty minutes I need to think th= is over. This is just to heavy to take lightly.)

=20

=20

Chief: (Okay.)

=20

=20

Chief walks out of the room John sits = back in the chair looking out the window. To the space ship thinking over e= verything that Chief said to him. Wondering if he is the right man for the = job. John is also trying to figure out what the benefits of what he is bein= g asked to do. After twenty minutes of sitting there weighing the pro's and= con's of this. The door slides open Chief walks in looks John dead in the = eyes asking.

=20

=20

Chief: ( So have you came to a decisio= n on this.)

=20

=20

John still siting looking out the wind= ow slowly turns the chair around. Looks at Chief looks down at the long tab= le in front of him then looks back at Chief saying.

=20

=20

John: ( I have weighed every thin= g out.)

=20

=20

Chief: ( And? What is your decision?)<= /span>

=20

=20

John: ( Before I answer. I want to know exactly what all I will = be doing.)

=20

=20

Chief walks over sits down at the table looks across. The long b= lack table with a golden design in it in the shape of scorpion. Beginning t= o detail the list of things John will be doing. Starting with going to othe= r planets talking with the leaders. So there will not be any war telling Jo= hn of the billions of galaxies. That he will go to telling him the chances = of probably never seeing earth again. But the chances of John dying of old = age is very slim.

=20

=20

Because they would put John under a few procedures. So that = he will live as long as they do. Chief takes his helmet off to reveal his f= ace. John is shocked at how similar they are to humans. Chief goes on to sa= y that if he does become their ambassador. That John will have everything he= could ever want and need.

=20

=20

The perks would be that John will be p= rotected at all times. He will have his own ship John will be married to th= e Chief's daughter. The moment they reach Chief's home planet lastly John w= ould be richer then any one on John's home planet.

=20

=20

John: ( Well when you put it that way = sure I will be your ambassador. But one question.)

=20

=20

Chief: ( Okay. What is your question?)

=20

=20

John: ( You think I am going to let you dance right by. Saying t= hat I am going to be marrying your daughter. As soon as we get to your worl= d with out asking. How do you know I am right for your daughter? Plus how d= o you know she is right for me?)

=20

=20

Chief goes on to say that they have been watching him for a whil= e. His every move watched his daily routine they know everything about him.= On there way to Chief's planet everything about the chiefs daughter. Will = be put into your mind during the procedures John will under go. So everythi= ng you need to know John you will know about my daughter.

=20

=20

Chief : ( So John do you want to become our Ambassador?)

=20

=20

John: ( Yes I would this is the most i= mportant thing I have ever done.)

=20

=20

As they take off through space John ca= n not help but think about. Everything that lays a head of him and all of t= he things he is leaving behind. As he has to find a new routine out in the = vast wide open reaches of space.

Miss Brown stared at the computer, her= mind far away, dreaming of the blue ocean, relaxing and sipping margaritas= on the sunny beaches of the Mexican Gulf. The cursor on the old Mac blinke= d impatiently, emitting short beeps, hungry for the next word. She sighed d= eeply, her heart heavy wit= h grief and disillusion. Her date last night was a huge disappointment. She= could not envision a happy, married life with the timid, young man sitting= opposite her. She sighed again and returned to the boring job of entering = data into the computer.

=20

Stacks of old, musty books were piled up in front of her, like a= mini tower of Pisa, threatening to topple over any minute. She forced hers= elf to concentrate on the work at hand, of entering the ISBN of all the boo= ks the library owned. She raised her hand to steady the pile and reached fo= r the next book. It was written by Lucy Walker, her favourite author, whose= novels she enjoyed reading for they were full of romance and set in the dr= y, dusty terrains of Australia. The idea of a romantic interlude, in a stra= nge country appealed to her immensely. Miss Brown often resorted to daydrea= ming, her personal life filled with drudgery and boredom.

=20

She flipped through the pages and a cr= umpled, pinkish looking paper fell out of it. She kneeled down to pick it u= p, tried to iron out the wrinkles with her palm, without tearing or destroy= ing the written words. Barely able to decipher the words, she read the mess= age carefully.

=20

=20

Meet me in the library and don't f= orget the statue!

=20

=20

Miss Brown's eyes lit up with exciteme= nt.What was all this about? Who wrote this message and for whom? She scanne= d it again to see if there was a name or a date on it. There was no date bu= t in the bottom right corner, there was an initial KP hardly visible to the= naked eye.

=20

Meet me in the library......... the wo= rds danced in front of her. Which library, she thought her heart pounding.<= /span>

=20

=20

She looked around the dimly lit room. It was empty except for an= old man with thin, wispy hair, his nose buried in the newspaper. Her work = quite forgotten, Miss Brown glued her eyes to the main entrance of the libr= ary, expecting a mysterious stranger to walk in with a bundle under his arm=

=20

=20

Just then the clock above her chimed 3pm, the time for the libra= ry to close. Except for the old man, the library was deserted. Her Mac beep= ed angrily, it's bright, green flashing, beckoning her to focus on the job = at hand. Just then she heard the door creak open and a young man in a fedor= a hat and dark glasses stepped in, surveyed the room and walked briskly tow= ards her. He carried a small bundle under his arm.

=20

=20

Miss Brown lowered her gaze and preten= ded to work at her computer. She could feel her heart pounding inside her s= weater. The young man coughed to draw her attention, removed his glasses an= d spoke in a soft voice. She couldn't take her eyes off him. He was tall, d= ark and handsome, just like in the harlequin romance. He had brown eyes tha= t lingered over her, or she imagined. She wished she had worn the bright bl= ue sweater instead of the dull, grey one. The blue diminished the pallor on= her face, a paleness that persisted in spite of the rouge. But it was too = late now! Instead she fluttered her long lashes at him.

=20

=20

? I am looking for Professor Smirnov. = Have you see him??

=20

=20

Miss Brown pointed to the old man sitt= ing by the window. He followed her gaze, thanked her and then walked toward= s him. She watched him greet the old man with a reverence reserved only for= the learned men in our society. He placed the bundle in front of him and p= ulled up a chair. She saw = the old man lift his glasses and stare at it, his mouth wide open.

=20

=20

Miss Brown couldn't see clearly from her desk, so she picked up = a pile of books and walked towards the book shelf, close to where they were= seated. They did not notice her. So absorbed were they in the thing before= them. They were whispering in low, excited voices. She heard the paper cra= ckle as he uncovered it and revealed the statue. The old man held it agains= t the sunlight, streaming through the window.

=20

=20

It was a Natraj statue, a depiction of= the Hindu God Shiva, as the divine dancer. A tenth century bronze sculptur= e- precious and expensive. Her mind darted to last week's headlines in The = Times. A statue from the temple of Rajasthan had been stolen and smuggled t= o the United Kingdom. The British authorities had been alerted and the FBI = were in hot pursuit of the criminals. Anyone who saw anything suspicious wa= s to call immediately and report to them. There was a hot market for these = idols and some unscrupulous people were willing to pay millions for them.

=20

=20

Miss Brown stood there rigid, watching= the pair pour over the statute. What should she do? What can she do? It wo= uld be too late to call the police. They would be alerted and disappear bef= ore they arrived. She had to do something. Then an idea struck her. She wal= ked over, smiled at them and pointed to the clock.

=20

=20

?The library is about close,?she said.=

=20

=20

The old man got up to leave. He placed the statue on the table f= or a moment while he put his coat on. Miss Brown saw her chance. She snatch= ed it and ran to her desk to call the police. The young man chased her, gra= bbed her shoulders and shook them violently. She held on tightly to the sta= tue, reaching for the phone, but he dug his fingers into her bones and the = shaking wouldn't stop. His gentle voice turned into a shrill cry.

=20

=20

?Wake up! Miss Brown.?

=20

=20

It was Mrs. Pringle, the head libraria= n, shaking her shoulders.

=20

=20

?You have fallen asleep at the desk ag= ain!?

=20

=20

Miss Brown rubbed her eyes and stared = at the ominous figure in front of her, hands on her hips, lips pursed and e= yes that flashed with anger.

=20

=20

?Miss Brown!? She repeated. ? This won= 't do! You can no longer work here. You are fired!? Saying her piece, she s= trode off to her office.

=20

=20

Miss Brown blinked in disbelief. She h= ad worked for the library for the past five years, diligently, without comp= laining or taking long breaks, rushing through her lunch hour just to get t= he work done. She had been loyal to them, quiet and discreet and never argu= ed. Still Mrs.Pringle had fired her, for sleeping on the job.

=20

=20

But she couldn't have fallen asleep. It was all so real. The you= ng man and the statue. It couldn't be a dream? She looked around for the st= atute but instead saw books scattered on the floor. She kneeled down to pic= k them up and found the pinkish, crumbled paper close to the edge of the de= sk. The message was still there.

=20

=20

Meet me in the library and don't forget the statute. KP.

=20

=20

Perhaps it was another library, in a d= ifferent city, thought Miss Brown as she cleared her desk and packed her be= longings in a small box. She was determined to find that stolen statute and= claim the reward. It appealed to her, the mysteries behind stolen statues = from exotic places, tracking down smugglers lurking in dark alleys, to get = to the bottom of it all!

=20

=20

This library, this job was not for her= She felt like a stranger here, a fish out of water, in this place that sm= elled of old books. She caressed her computer, a final goodbye. Old Mac bee= ped again, its bright, green cursor winking, wishing her good luck. Miss Br= own slipped the pink paper into her overcoat pocket and strolled out of the= library into the bright, sunny day.
