I still hope to see this award instituted, although perhaps not until the next annual meeting, which properly ought to happen this calendar year. It seems to me like one of those things that might need a champion: Someone to beat the drum, insist that it happens, and get people talking about it in a sustained way in advance of the meeting. There is no shortage of deserving people, and I would like to see LLG play a more active role in recognizing the efforts that people invest into realizing lojban's potential. In the mean time, I am glad that the meeting recognized John Cowan's sustained efforts by naming him balgenpre. That's a step in this direction. > Also, Riley suggested to: > > Open the "llg-members" archives to the public. If I recall, lojbab suggested that it may be up to Robin's discretion whether or not to do so. I think he was referring to Robin in the capacity of Secretary/Treasurer. I will continue to pursue this thread with whomever succeed Robin in that office -- should that be myself, I will personally take it up with the Board. An open record of the proceedings of this body will be useful in securing and maintaining the participation of the community in the organization. That said, I have changed my opinion about the Board minutes. Parliamentary procedure is firm on this point: "The minutes of a board are open only to its members because the board considers many matters that cannot be discussed outside the board without injury to the organization or to its members." While I think it's important that the Board renew its efforts to communicate its priorities and the substance of its proceedings to the membership, I no long think that opening the board's mailing list is the best way to address that. The current discussion about hiring administrative help, in so far as it touches on the consideration of particular candidates, may be a good example of the kind of discussion best left to the confidentiality of the Board's proceedings. --Riley _______________________________________________ Llg-members mailing list Llg-members@lojban.org http://mail.lojban.org/mailman/listinfo/llg-members
