Secretary, LLG scripsit: > - Clarifying LLG's policy regarding hosting, embedding or linking to > copyrighted materials on the web site Linking doesn't belong here, for linking is just mechanized citation, and the ability to cite any work, whether copyrighted or not, is fundamental to a number of cultures: scholarly, legal, journalistic. It would be like claiming that "See p. 35 of _The Hunt for Red October_, U.S. Naval Institute Press (1978)" somehow infringed Clancy's copyright. Which is absurd. In my opinion, there is nothing that we need to do about hosting or embedding, except perhaps to relicense everything under a CC-BY-SA license. I would certainly have used one on the Red Book if they had existed at that time. The sole exception is the Lojban logo. This is not a trademark, because we don't use it very much in trade, but if we ever want to do so, we will have to be able to police its uses. I think a policy of requiring a license for use, but granting them liberally with no more than an email, would suffice. > - Doing more to promote and highlight creative works in lojban > - Maintaining an up-to-date list of lojban projects and updating LLG's > official project policy > - Revising the bylaws to enable the option of using a registered agent > service to maintain compliance with Virginia law I'm in favor of all those. -- John Cowan http://www.ccil.org/~cowan cowan@ccil.org "Not to know The Smiths is not to know K.X.U." --K.X.U.
