"Alex! there it is, the endanger= ed tiger", May says to me while pulling my backpack down so we don't s= care the tiger away. Okay I responded, but why is it going into a cave, and= look there are three more tigers following it, what are they doing?. "= ;Maybe they following another their prey, and it's in the cave", May s= aid. "No way, let's follow it and see for ourselves", added Dave.= I tried to tell him to stop but it was too late, he had already taken off = and May had followed him too. Under pressure to miss out on the action, I f= ollow them, not knowing that this was the day our lives would completely ch= ange, and there it was, the entrance of the cave. It was dark and quiet, th= e temperature in there was a bit cold. I tried turning on my flashlight to = see because it got so pitch black that I couldn't even see my hand in front= of my face. Before I could reach down in my backpack, I suddenly heard May= and Dave screaming, I ran faster down the cave and to my surprise, I fell = down a very steep slope, and when I reached the ground I finally saw May an= d Dave. They were on their knees near a bush peeking over. Hey guys how are= we going to get back? I said to them in hesitation, they ignored me and co= ntinued staring at whatever was behind those leaves, Hey! I exclaimed, and = still, they didn't turn to me or even say anything back. I simply felt Mays= hand pulling me in to see what they were looking at, and there it was, it = was as if we had fallen into an underground world, filled with so many anim= als and plants. It was a sight to look at, the sky was a dark purple, the l= eaves and plants there were bigger than normal and it looked like we had fa= llen in some sort of a Jurassic Park movie. How did we get here, you ask? w= ell, it all started on Monday, second period, science class and yes, I love= science.

=20

=20

Like any other fifth grader, school i= sn't really my thing but the reason Monday was an exciting day was because = Professor D Henderson who's my favourite scientist ever was coming to our s= chool to teach us about endangered species, and I had so many questions to = ask him about dinosaurs, and on that day I got to school earlier than norma= l. May, Dave and I planned that we would bring all our dinosaur stuff, and = sit in the front row and take notes and ask as many questions as we can. Wh= en the second period came we spent the whole lesson talking to him, he even= taught us about cool stuff like the different types of dinosaurs. His scie= nce lab coat was amazing, he gave us an assignment and of course, May, Dave= and I made a pact that we would carry out the assignment no matter what. T= he assignment was that we had to go and research about endangered species a= nd since we live quite close to the forest we decided that a little adventu= re couldn't hurt. Professor D Henderson didn't say we should do this but sc= ience is science as so we had to, after all, we made a pact.

I told my mom I'd be back before noon= and that I was going to your house May, I said. "and I told my nana I= 'll be at your house Jake" May said, "and I said I would be at yo= ur house May" Dave added. Okay, guys looks like we're good to go, but = let's take backpacks just in case we run into some unfriendly animals, don'= t you think? I asked, knowing very well that, that was what we were going t= o do anyway. We always went on adventures like this and we always brought o= ur backpacks. Now here we are, in a cave filled with what looked like all t= he endangered species, " oh wow, a white rhino and some mountain goril= las" May said in excitement and owe, "but why are the animals her= e, everyone thinks they endangered and yet they not" Dave says, I put = my backpack down and looked towards Dave, well just look at them, look at h= ow free and happy they are here, I said. "You're right, the animals lo= ok so healthy and free" May adds on. Before we could go and pick a hid= ing place, some birds came firing in right behind us and they looked so exo= tic and beautiful, they had feathers with multiple colours and their beaks = were long, "oh no" May cried out "what? what is it?" Da= ve asked. Before she could even speak, a bird came flying in our direction = and we couldn't jump all the way down across the leaves because the other a= nimals would see us, and so we laid down on the ground holding sticks up so= the bird doesn't come towards us. "why are you humans here?" the= bird said. "AHH! the bird is talking" May shouted, "since w= hen do birds speak" Dave adds. "Quiet you fellow humans, I am not= a threat, my name is Debby", the bird said. I couldn't believe it, th= e bird actually spoke, I thought maybe the air pressure down the cave was m= essing with our brains or something.

=20

=20

We were standing up now, holding onto= each other with a lot of fear and hesitation. "how did you find us, t= his isn't good, this is bad" the bird said and she continued to speak = and say " the animal kingdom was falling apart because of humans, we w= ere being killed more by humans than ourselves, there were many many animal= s who were being separated because of how people think of animals but look&= quot; the bird used its claw and pointed towards the land below, where anim= als, insects and plants of all kind were living in harmony. "we each l= eave the human world above, one species at a time and come here, we leave a= nd let the humans think we are dead that way they won't bother us" Deb= by the bird says " but don't people look everywhere to find out if spe= cies or an animal is extinct?" May asks, while Dave and I still stare = at Debby in confusion, trying to process what's happening here. " Oh d= ear child, no no that's impossible. Do you know how many mountains, caves, = and underground caves and underground mountains, trees, holes and, many oth= er places that people would have to look to find endangered species?. Human= s haven't really discovered much of their land above, we know earth more th= an anyone else on this planet." Debby says while lowering her wings as= if she's preparing herself to continue talking to us. "Uhm sorry Debb= y, but do the other birds speak?" Dave asks, "Other birds? oh dar= ling every animal and insect here speaks, we just never talk to the humans = above the ground because they'd torture us and try to mingle with our brain= s, well, they already do that" Debby laughs sarcastically as she says = this and she went on to say " we grew tired of people, we are safer he= re. Which is probably why you should leave, immediately before the watch gu= ards see you here and I too could be punished if they see me with you."= ; Debby says. "The watch guards are the animals who are part of the ci= rcle which is another group of animals who protect and fight for us all, in= case humans ever try getting in here or if any humans are even seen near h= ere" she adds.

=20

=20

OH! but we can't leave, I say to Debb= y "can't? what do you mean?, you know the animals here are not quite b= ig fans of people, if I were you I'd be gone by now" Debby says and th= is time her voice was more serious and I could see her tail wiggle a bit wh= ich is a sign that she feels threatened. " Debby, the entrance we used= is over there and that's too high for us to reach and we-" before May= could finish her sentence Debby responds and says "oh, well, yes of c= ourse you cant reach there but I know another way out of here but it's guar= ded by the watchers," Debby says "the watchers? who are those?&qu= ot; Dave says. "They are animal who are like what you humans call the = police, only they don't hurt other animals," Debby says with a little = smirk on her face. Okay we have to leave, I'm sorry If we're causing you tr= ouble Debby "but of course you are" she says back to me " oh= I'm kidding, you humans are so stiff, it's only a joke. Okay, I'll need yo= u guys to get on my back and use my feathers to hide, okay?" Debby say= s while lowering her head down towards us so we could climb her back. We ru= n and each climb her and she shakes her body so that her feathers would ris= e a little bit and cover us.

=20

=20

May, Dave and I all looked at each ot= her as if we were still failing to process what just happened, "I wish= I brought my camera" May says while searching in her bag and I tell h= er that maybe it's for the best, nobody should ever know about this place, = "oh I have mine" Dave says while reaching out to give May the cam= era. "Well you're right Jake but I want to have the pictures just for = us to be able and look back at them and see what a beautiful place this is,= " May says to me. I don't think they'd be any harm in a couple of pict= ures and we'll keep them s= afe so nobody can see them. I couldn't have been more wrong, the second May= took the first image and the camera flashed another bird flying by was bli= nded by the flash and fell down. Debby knew something had gone wrong becaus= e the Eagles and crows which I think were part of the watch guards or circl= e we following us, and the Eagles formed a circle around Debby and she had = to fly down. I looked towards May and she knew she had caused us trouble an= d she looked so scared and sad, "It's okay May" Dave whispers to = her, It was a mistake and any one of us could have done that, I said to her=

=20

=20

When we reached the ground and the other animals surrounded us = and it got very intense and scary now, as the Eagles stayed in a formation = of a circle around us and the crows continued to circle above us, also in a= circle. "Debby, California Condor of east Africa, animal number plate= 0089. What are you doing flying so fast?" I looked in my endangered s= pecies book and saw that the bird talking was a snowy owl, he was so formal= , so adequate and well-spoken I couldn't believe how organized and civilize= d animals were, it really was amazing to see. "Well officer Snow, uhm = I'm actually in a rush because I'm on my way to the rescue team recruit to = see if they need any help saving other birds out there and I uhm-" whi= le Debby was about to finish his sentence I looked across to his other wing= where Dave was hiding and I see he's about to sneeze, "don't" Ma= y whispers to him." What was that?" officer Snow asks. "What= was what?" Debby says in the attempt to trick him but unfortunately, = his hearing is very sharp, "Well, Debby since you are our trusted bird= watcher and you're in the circle I believe that you may proceed however th= is behaviour shouldn't repeat itself. Do you understand?"=20

officer Snow says, "well of course officer Snow". &qu= ot;Alright then, write down a warning in Debby's book, it's a 101 disaster = in his record," officer Snow says while pointing towards an Eagle with= a device that looked like a phone but for birds. I was super impressed wit= h the whole kingdom of bird here, as I looked up above the cave there was a= huge piece of stone where a lion and a lioness were sitting as if they wer= e watching and monitoring the kingdom, even gorillas were standing next to = them like guards and all these animal here we all in the endangered species= book.

=20

=20

As Debby was preparing to fly off, unfortunately, Dave ends up = sneezing, he catches the attention of Oficer Snow, as well as the guards ar= ound him. The other animals around us also stopped and looked at Debby, in = question of what was going on and where the sound came from. "oh well = that's my queue" Debby said while taking off in a rush before the crow= s flying above us could see that there was a problem,"hold o" Deb= by said as she raced off to try and make it to the Tollgate that was like a= bridge between the cave and the outside,"close the guarding gates&quo= t; officer Snow said to the watch gurds by the gate leading outside. "= I hope we make it" May screamed, "well here it comes" Debby = said as we approached the the gate and we had to lay down flat so we could = get through and not get bumped by the gate. We surprisingly made it and the= other Eagles, crows as well as officer Snow behind us couldnt catch us bec= ause the gate closed them in the cave.

=20

=20

We made it out, "that was too close" May said and she= was right it was too close and my main concern was Debby, and how she was = going to return back to the secrete underground cave land. Uhm Debby what a= re you going to do, I asked and silence followed as well as some awkward lo= oks from May and Dave." There it is, that's my house" May said as= she gets ready to jump off. "Bye Debby, i hope i see you again" = May says as she gives her a kiss and jumps off with Dave, and left. Okay De= bby its just you and I now, you need to tell me what's going to happen, I s= aid "I know I can't go back so I'll have to wonder or maybe move to th= e rainforest, I've always wanted to go on a journey like that" Debby s= ays with a little laugh. Okay that's my house, I say with a little bit of g= uilt in my voice because Debby's in trouble because of us,"oh well, I = guess I should take off" Debby says and before she could lift off and = leave I say stop, you don't have to go, you could stay with us in our hidea= way cave of our own. May, Dave and I have our own little place where we go = to have fun and maybe you could stay with us. Debby smiled at me and I show= ed her the cave and later that night I saw her by my window and we spoke ab= out so many 'endangered species' and how they're like and to this day peopl= e don't know about the secrete cave.

=20

=20

The bustling scenery met my eyes as I took a seat from one of t= he bench inside the train.

=20

=20

I looked up to my mother in confusion and fear as the people ar= ound us kept increasing until not even a needle could fit. It was too stron= g that I became anxious. The very first time that my personal space was inv= aded by strangers. But Mom just smiled at me and held my hand to assure me = that everything's alright and that I'm safe.

=20

=20

The sound coming from the train filled my ears, indicating that= the train doors will soon close and the train starts moving as soon as the= door close.

=20

=20

Various unfamiliar faces and unpleasant noises were heard insid= e the train. From cellphone calls, conversation between the passengers, inf= ant's cries and rail joints, the sound that the train makes when the rail m= akes a familiar sound "clickety-clack" as the train's wheels roll= over them.

=20

=20

Manila, from what I've heard of, was = the most crowded and busiest city in the Philippines. But that, which only = was a thought, became reality to me as I am now experiencing it. It was mor= e than just a busy street or a crowded place, nor a city full of unfamiliar= and intimidating people. It was an adventure. A story with mixed genres an= d never-ending chapters of people and their daily lives.

=20

=20

But now all I could see is black and = white, well, except for my Mom. There's a black shade that's darker and som= e, just dull white. Like a story without a twist. Like a character with no specified role to play. I = thought that being in a new place and riding a transport that's new to me w= ould be an amazing ride but it was rather a mind boggling adventure. The on= ly thing that's keeping me positive is my mother who's standing beside me a= nd what's waiting for me at the end of our journey.

=20

=20

And that positivity added when the old woman sitting beside me,= reached out to me and gave me a candy. It was the first colored thing that= met my eyes after entering the train. My eyes glistened in delight but I w= as a bit hesitant. I still remember what my cousins said to me. That al= l the things that someone will give me is not for free. Everything comes wi= th a price that you can or cannot pay with just money. Some, with actions o= r kind words that ears are very pleased to hear.

=20

=20

But the kind smile from the old woman= made all those hesitations, doubts and fears vanish. It's like she's sayin= g that all the things my cousins taught me was mere speculation, not based = on experience. Maybe, they're right. Maybe, they're wrong. It depends on wh= at other people experience. But the thing that we need to keep in mind was = to always give a benefit of the doubt and the beg to differ.

=20

=20

With that in mind, I reached out my h= and in politeness and with gratitude, I accept the candy. That's when the o= ld woman also appeared bright. She is now full of colors. Her grayish-white= bob hair was in soft curls complimenting her naturally tanned skin. She's = wearing a crimson red long sleeves dress that rests few inches below from h= er knees and a black flip flops. I suddenly noticed her nails that looks li= ke it was newly manicured and penicured, also in different vibrant colors. = On her lap was a green tote bag with a print saying, "Marikit" which means Pretty or Gorgeo= us.

=20

=20

I gave the candy to my Mom to kindly ask her to open it for me.= I saw how she struggled to open it while holding our bag in the other arm = when the young lady who's sitting beside me, offered her seat for my Mom. W= hen my Mom declined, she just offer to open the candy for me so my Mom = gratefully agreed and said her thank you.

=20

=20

The young lady smiled at me as she ga= ve me the candy which was now out from its wrapper. As I get the candy from= his hands, I noticed her having colors, again. Her skin was pale white and= her long jet black hair was naturally straight. She's wearing a neon green= bucket hat and a white top, partnered with denim jeans and a white sneaker= s. One that I really noticed was... her smile was really pretty.

= =20

=20

After those interactions, I came to n= otice the other people's cheery smile, their contagious laughter which made= the whole atmosphere more light and radiant. Their smiling faces which are= now having colors made all my prejudice towards the city and the crowd as = a whole went on the rainbows and now on the more optimistic side, rather th= an down the drain.

=20

=20

Sadly, one by one, they came out of t= he train as their reach their destinations. It was now enough for my Mom to= sit beside me and for me to see the scenery outside the train, behind the = glass windows.

=20

=20

All of a sudden, a flash of lightning striked through the air f= ollowed by a roaring thunder that many of the passengers began to worry if = they have bring an umbrella to shield themselves from the rain that starts = pouring little by little.

=20

=20

I looked at my Mom when she started brushing my hair. Biting he= r lower lips, I know that she's worrying about us getting wet from the sudd= en rain. It was just small drops but I know that they still worry about eve= rything I don't know of. Surprisingly, I'm not worried nor feeling scared i= f that might happen because of the little interactions I made earlier.<= /span>

=20

=20

When I took a seat and observed my surroundings, I honestly tho= ught that this ride will be a scary ride. Like a rollercoaster with so many= courses, flips, twists and turns which I hated the most. But seeing the po= sitive side of the ride, I began to hope and be confident that it was and w= ill became an amazing adventure.

=20

=20

It became dark after the train went i= nside the tunnel. But still, I feel no fear. I just felt my Mother's warmth= from her embrace, thinking that I'm scared or whatnot when in fact, I'm no= t which was a good thing, for me.

=20

=20

One thing that I just wish while we w= ere inside the tunnel, passing through it, was to erase all their doubts an= d worries. All their fears. Like what they did to me.

=20

=20

And as if my words have powers, the blinding light welcomed us = as the train passed the dark tunnel. It made us close our eyes but after a = while, the gray skies are now painted in vibrant blue with the white fluffy= clouds, making me want to sleep on it. The dull scenery a while ago was no= w full of colors, in green and red and yellow.

=20

=20

And the little gift from the Above was a chromatic rainbow,= which normally has muted colors but as if it knows that people have their = worries, it started to show it's true colors.

=20

=20

It was colorful and vibrant that the = eyes that was then full of worries and their mouth which was in gloom, is n= ow became hopeful and aspired for the next chapters of life.
