Once again I wake up, our boat barely = mended together. It's been 36 days since we've been lost out to sea. Out sh= ip crashed, although most of the crew died due to hypothermia those of us r= emaining got on the safety boats and headed out for sea. From the food on t= he ship each boat has 116 biscuits, 40 gallons of fresh water, and two = ; men to man each boat. Supplies are running low, we're barely making it ou= t on the sea. Mother sold our house, belongings, and nearly everything that = we owned so I would be able to make it out on this boat. ?A passage way to your education she'd use t= o call it.?.  My mother always told me she wanted me to be something,s= omeone greater than she was. Sadly I don't know if i'll ever do that. Where= we are headed now I absolutely have no possible idea. But where we're supp= osed to go was England, University of Oxford, i recently graduated high sch= ool off to a bright future. Or so I thought. My thoughts cease as I sleep, = the only peace that I tend to get these days. Dawn breaks and i'm not longe= r at home. And forced to the realisation that we are indeed still lost at s= ea. We have half of our biscuits and three-fourths of our fresh water left = over. My partner that traveled with me in the boat seems to be just about d= ead. Where the other two boats went I'm not sure of. In the beginning Thoma= s, my partner that is heard some talk about an island nearby where we're fr= om how true this is i don't know. But my father always taught me how to ide= ntify north, south, east and west even without a compass. And from the inform= ation Thomas gave me I tend to be drifting in the right direction. I begin = to go in and out of consciousness, as I quickly look over to Thomas, id= entifying that he is indeed dead. With the little strength that I have left= I push him over the boat, there's no need in someone drifting in a boat if= he's a dead man. I drink my portion of water and biscuits for the day, alt= hough i have an abundance of supplies now it's best to save what I have in = case i'm here for much longer. The wind rolled my head over as I already lo= st all of my strength, and to my surprise a boat. I am unable to recognise = it, but it appears it has the stripes and numbers of on the side of it just= like this one it must be one of our boats. But to my luck it not only appe= ars to be damaged but empty. I roll my hand outside of the boat and attempt= to row my boat over, with God's help and some tough rowing. I do just that= Just to my luck the fresh water is close to nothing, and the biscuits hav= e been drowned in salt wat= er. I take the water and continue to move my separate way. =

Day 26 I forgot what day of the year it was at this point, I mar= ked the sides of my own damaged boat day twenty-six. Due to the low food ra= tions that I permitted myself  I still have 110 biscuits left as well = as 20 gallons of fresh water. I begin to think of what my mother is doing. = If she is taking care, if she is worried about me. Here out on the Ocean th= ere is a limited about of thoughts you can go through before you have nothi= ng left in your own mind. I like to think that they sent out a search party= or some other bigger ships, but knowing where I came from. Knowing where a= ll the men on that ship came from. They couldn't care less wether we lived = or died. To them we're simple just a number, a dollar sign even. If I ever = made it to my destination all they would care about is the attention that I= could bring to that town. Going to one of England's best colleges, is no b= ig feat for the Country I come from. Especially from my small town. But onl= y if I would of made it, Life for my mother and me could of been different.= Our future, I could replaced everything that she sold to even get me on th= at boat in the first place. As the day ends, I sleep peacefully knowing tha= t one day, someday at least i'll be back to the home I desire to be. I wake= up bright and early for a change, I turn around and to my surprise somethi= ng Green, my immediate assumption is that it's just another boat. But this = looks different. I squint my eyes and?..I..I can't believe it it's an Islan= d. Why! This must have been the Island that Thomas referred to. Oh, if he w= as here to see this. If all of the shipmates that passed away, If only they= would be able to see this. I quickly eat twice my daily ration of biscuits= and water, not like in running quite low in supply anyway. I quickly hurl = my torso over the boat so i'm able to use both my arms to row closer an= d closer to the island. But this was not a fail proof plan though. The isla= nd although in my eye's view must've been miles away. But how far from home = this was, and how I would be able to get back home are questions that I cho= ose to answer at a later date. Each morning and each night I would check ho= w far I was, wether I was getting closer, farther. No matter what I needed = to get to that Island my closet, possibly my only chance of getting home. I= slip in and out of consciousness, eating my daily ration. Moving closer an= d closer to that island each day. Night time, the most peaceful time of the= se days. A sudden quick crash onto the island jolts me awake. And as I look= up into the starry-night sky. Wondering, just thinking if only mother had = been here to this, to see the stars shining brighter than they ever had bef= ore. Just like she always wanted.

=20

I swam hard against the currents. My l= ungs screamed for air, but my head was unable to surface. My arms and legs = felt like the blood had been replaced with quicksilver, the bones with lead= I kept pushing though, knowing that it was this or a darkness that I woul= d never wake from.

=20

I surfaced for just a moment, long eno= ugh to take a deep breath.= The air was polluted with the sharp taste of metal, thick with smoke, scen= ted with salt.

=20

Another wave pushed me down, too soon. I struggled again and aga= in. My eyes were blurred under the water, but what was that? A flash of yel= low? A strip of land? No, I couldn't let myself hope. Just keep swimming, j= ust keep swimming. The familiar tune ran through my head, pushing me forwar= d. It made me want to laugh, but that was just the hysteria coming out.=

=20

Eventually, the pressure overhead started to lessen. The water s= tarted to lighten. The currents stopped pulling me towards the wreckage beh= ind me and started pushing me towards that glimpse of sand I saw before. I = swim now with my head above water.

=20

Eventually, I can touch the bottom. I trudge slowly through the = thick liquid. My lungs and nostrils burn, my limbs feel dead. My brain feel= s all...tired. And foggy. The world starts to swoop up and down, in and out= Things start to get all black and fuzzy around the edges and the last thi= ng I remember is the ground coming up to meet me.

=20

=20

"Miss?" A man with a deep voice and a southern accent = asks. "Miss?"

=20

"Are you sure she's not dead?" A bossy female voice de= mands. Rude

=20

"Pretty sure. I-I checked her pulse." A much softer, m= ore timid voice asks.

=20

"Miss?" The first voice asks= again.

=20

I lie there for a moment, trying to ge= t a grip on things. I can hear the ocean and waves to my left. The ground i= s sandy, the air is suffocating, laying a thick blanket over me. I felt hot= and sticky from the humidity. I was sure my red hair was a curly, frizzy m= ess.

=20

I open my eyes, terrified of what I'll see. A kind face with a s= cruffy beard, strong jaw, blue eyes and brown hair. He smiles at me softly.= "Good mornin', Miss." Oooh, Miss!

=20

I sit up slowly, my entire body stiff and sore. "It's Kat.&= quot; The beach is white, bleached from the relentless sun. The ocean is a = shining sapphire blue. To my right, jade trees with thick trunks darken int= o a jungle. I shudder, the dark cold and threatening.

=20

"Will. Are you cold?" Kind, considerate. We would get = along, till his optimism got old.

=20

I shake my head fiercely. I look over my shoulder, searching for= the other voices I heard. I spot a blonde woman with brown roots and brown= eyes. Her arms are crossed and she glares poutingly at the horizon. A = nervous young man paces up and down the beach not far away from her, dirty = blonde hair and gray eyes.

=20

"It-" My mind is still fuzzy= "What," I put a hand to my forehead and shake my head slowly. &= quot;Do you know what time it is?"

=20

"We crashed around noon. I say it= took me about thirty minutes to get to shore, an hour to find Wes, that yo= ung man, Leah, the young woman, and you. Another thirty minutes for you to = wake up. So, I'd say it's about 2 o'clock, maybe 3." I was sure it was= later than that. Adrenalin made time fly ten times faster than fun.=

=20

"We, um, we need to make a shelte= r. And make a fire. And ge= t plans for food and water and--" I started to panic, I couldn't breat= h, everything was going to go terribly, terribly wrong.

=20

"Slow down. You need to rest. I'm sure Wes and Leah won't b= e opposed to some hard work. You just help when you're feeling up to it.&qu= ot; Will was so confident. So sure that everything was going to be okay, ev= en here, the first day, when our worlds had been turned upside down and sid= eways. He gave me so much hope.

=20

I sat there for a half hour, pissed that I couldn't do anything.= Leah refused to help after all, and Wes didn't have much meat on his bones= , poor thing. Will did all the work in making our shelter. It was small and= wouldn't do much against, well, any type of weather, but it was better tha= n nothing. I got up, collected firewood, and worked on making a spark. I di= d an old trick I had learned from my brother, but it wasn't working. I glan= ced over to Leah, who hadn't moved.

=20

"Leah! You wanna help? We need fo= od and water."

=20

She rolled her eyes. "We live nex= t to the ocean. We have all the water we need."

=20

I tried not to call her stupid, or wor= se. "That's salt water. Drink to much of it, you'll hallucinate. Can y= ou collect some so we can boil it?"

=20

She shrugged. "Whatever." We= ll, at least I know she'll listen to me if all things go for the worse.

=20

The sun slowly lowered. Eventually, Wes helped me start the fire= It started slowly, but soon turned into a roaring flame. Will, despite ev= erything, was smiling. An adventure type, I gathered. He had a sharpened st= ick he called a spear and was going fishing tomorrow. Leah and I were going= to go searching in the frightening forest for fruit or a freshwater stream= Wes was going to follow Will, try and learn a few things.

= =20

I could feel a pattern forming. Stubborn Leah, puppy dog Wes, ha= rdworking Will, and me, somewhere in the middle. I wasn't panicking yet, wh= ich surprised me. I guess reality hadn't kicked in yet. It would soon.<= /span>

=20

I stared up at the sky, watching the s= parks dance up towards the dark sky. The stars twinkled up above, watching = us carefully. They were so much brighter here than back home.
