U.S. FBA Fees Changed on February 18

Effective February 18, 2014, Fulfillment by Amazon adjusted rates in the U.S. to reflect the rising costs of storage, fulfillment, transportation, and customer service. These changes affected fulfillment fees, monthly storage fees, and Inventory Placement Service fees.

Previously, we announced that, effective May 29, 2014, the Pick & Pack Fee for clothing products will increase by $0.40 per unit.

For more information on the 2014 FBA fee changes, including fee schedules, definitions, and examples, including new information about the Clothing Pick & Pack Fee, please visit Fulfillment by Amazon Fee Changes 2014.

Sort Your Shipments by Date

The Manage FBA Shipments page in Seller Central now gives you the ability to sort your shipments by the creation date of the shipment. Just look for the “Created on” column to sort your shipments by date.

From the Forums

Q: I just checked my FBA inventory report. Under "Unfulfillable", there's one item listed as "Customer Damaged.” What does that mean exactly?

A: When we issue a refund to a customer for a return, we debit your seller account for the product’s sale price plus applicable taxes to reimburse the customer. When the returned product arrives at the fulfillment center, it is assessed for damage or anything that would make the product unsellable. If it arrives in sellable condition, it will be added back to your inventory. If it is in unsellable condition and Amazon takes responsibility for the damage, you will be reimbursed for the returned unit in accordance with the FBA Lost and Damaged Inventory Reimbursement Policy and FBA Service Terms (sign-in required), and the returned unit will not be added to your inventory. If it is a circumstance where Amazon does not take responsibility for the unsellable status, the product will be added to your unfulfillable inventory, and you will not be reimbursed for the product. “Customer Damaged” is how we designate a product that was returned to the Amazon fulfillment center in a state where it could not be resold and Amazon does not take responsibility for the unsellable status.

The "From the Forums" section features real questions from FBA sellers from the Amazon Seller Forums.

March 2014 Newsletter

Greetings from Fulfillment by Amazon

Now that our clocks have sprung forward, what about your online sales? This spring, take stock of changes you can build into your Amazon business to reduce administrative time, access new features, or improve your speed-to-market.

Spring Cleaning for Your Inventory

Spring time means spring cleaning, and unsold or unsellable inventory in Amazon fulfillment centers is no exception:

Sell or remove meltable inventory by May 1: Submit a removal order to have your unsold meltable inventory – such as chocolates – returned to you or disposed of prior to May 1. Be advised that inventory removals (returns or disposals) can take 10 to 14 business days to pick, pack, and process. For more information, visit the Date- and Temperature-Sensitive Products Help page.

Enable FBA Automated Unfulfillable Removals: By enabling Automated Unfulfillable Removals, you are requesting to have eligible unfulfillable units in Amazon's fulfillment centers automatically removed (either returned or disposed of) on the schedule you select. For more information, visit the FBA Automated Unfulfillable Removals Help page.

Reminder: New Shipment Creation Workflow to Replace Original Workflow in U.S. on March 31

The original shipment workflow in the U.S. will no longer be available in Seller Central on March 31, 2014. If you haven’t yet made the transition to the new Shipment Creation Workflow, prepare to switch now to adapt your operations and access powerful new features.

The new Shipment Creation Workflow features a redesign to improve ease of use, reduce steps, and better align with Amazon requirements for shipments to our fulfillment centers.

Learn more about the transition or watch our tutorial video, “How to Create Shipments to Amazon Fulfillment Centers”:

To try out the new Shipment Creation Workflow, sign into your Seller Central account and click the “Try it now” button at the top of your Manage FBA Inventory page (sign-in required).

Protecting Your Inventory for Shipment and Sale

Properly prepping your products for their journey to Amazon fulfillment centers is absolutely essential to protect your products, Amazon associates, other products, and customers. When your products are prepped properly, they can be received and made available for sale faster.

Here are two resources to help ensure your products are e-commerce ready when you ship them to Amazon:

Use Amazon Preferred Prep Supplies: You can purchase Amazon-preferred poly bags, boxes, stretch wrap, bubble wrap, and more directly from Amazon. Check out the Amazon Preferred Product Prep and Shipping Supplies store to see how Amazon can help with your shipping supply needs.

Review Product-Specific Prep Guidelines: FBA has prep guidelines for specific product types, including liquids, sharp objects, jewelry, baby products, and more. For more information about proper prep for your products, visit the Packaging and Prep Requirement Help page.

Delight Your Customers with Frustration-Free Packaging

If you are an authorized reseller or manufacture your own products, you may be eligible to join Amazon’s Frustration-Free Packaging program. This program alleviates “wrap rage” by featuring products in recyclable boxes that are easy to open and contain fewer excess materials.

Amazon provides packaging certification free of charge. Once certified, you can enjoy the following benefits:

  • Expand your reach to a growing segment of Amazon customers who look for frustration-free packaging.
  • Potential for exposure on Amazon’s Frustration-Free Packaging storefront.
  • Potentially lower costs by reducing packaging materials, transportation, labor, and waste in your supply chain.

Learn more about the Frustration-Free Packaging program (sign-in required) and see if you qualify, or watch a short video to learn more about selling products with Frustration-Free Packaging on Amazon.com.

Selling Internationally Made Easier

If you’ve been selling on Amazon and want instant access to millions of customers, consider expanding your product listings to other Amazon marketplaces. Amazon provides tools to make selling internationally easier—including the new Multi-Country Inventory (MCI) fulfillment option, now available in Amazon’s five European marketplaces in the UK, France, Germany, Italy, and Spain.

When you select MCI, you send your most popular inventory directly to Amazon fulfillment centers in the countries where you are listing your products, and Amazon stores those products closer to local customers. Although MCI is an advanced feature for fulfilling Amazon sales in Europe, it offers benefits for sellers that place a premium on delivery speed to customers.

Learn more about selling and fulfilling in Amazon’s European marketplaces.

Multi-Country Inventory is the latest in a series of Amazon tools to help sellers expand more easily into Europe. Other tools include:

European Unified Account: Amazon has unified its European marketplaces, allowing you to create and manage product offers on any and all of our marketplaces on Amazon.co.uk, Amazon.de, Amazon.fr, Amazon.it, and Amazon.es. You control what you sell where, and you manage your business from a single seller account interface. When you sign up to sell on any Amazon European marketplace, your seller account is automatically enabled to allow you to sell on the other Amazon European marketplaces.

Build International Listings: The Build International Listings tool saves you time managing listings and enables you to create and update listings at the same time across multiple Amazon European marketplaces. You select a source marketplace where your listings currently exist and identify a target marketplace in which you currently have no offers.
