Greetings from Fulfillment by Amazon

When it comes to your Amazon business, preparation is key, especially preparing your business for the upcoming peak holiday shopping season. In this edition, we cover actions you can take now to set yourself up for selling success through the rest of 2014, including marketing your Amazon listings to get more eyes on your offers, checking that you have the right approvals to sell in restricted categories, and refining your supply chain processes to ensure adequate product prep.

Drive More Traffic to Your Amazon Offers

With the back-to-school season upon us and the holiday shopping season just around the corner, you may want to consider some new ways of driving traffic to your Amazon products.

You might already be using Amazon’s advertising products, such as Product Ads and Sponsored Products, but don’t miss out on these other opportunities:

  • Amazon School Lists are an easy way for school teachers to compile school supply lists for their students. Spread the word to teachers about this useful tool while highlighting your offers.
  • #AmazonCart allows you to promote Amazon listings on Twitter and help drive sales. Customers can add products they see on Twitter to their Amazon.com shopping carts without leaving Twitter.
  • Create a Promotion: Adding an incentive—such as Buy One Get One, a discount, or other benefit upon purchase—can improve order conversion.
  • Market Your Products on Facebook: Now, more than ever, e-commerce sellers are leveraging Facebook’s power to promote their products.

Unplanned Prep Services to Expand in September in the U.S.

Last year, FBA introduced Unplanned Prep Services, a fee-based program for units requiring barcode labels. We are now expanding the program to include other prep types. Starting September 2, 2014, we will charge Unplanned Prep Services fees for any unplanned prep we perform on your products in Amazon fulfillment centers, including barcode and/or ASIN labeling, poly bagging, opaque bagging, bubble wrapping, taping, and display of a bag suffocation warning.

To give you more time to understand the potential impact on your business, we have begun displaying the Unplanned Prep Services we perform on your behalf, along with photos of your products at the fulfillment center, so you can preview the upcoming associated fees within your Seller Central account.

We want to ensure that you can prep your FBA inventory in a way that works best for your business. Your options include: 1) Completing prep yourself; 2) Taking advantage of FBA Prep Services; or 3) Using Unplanned Prep Services.

If you do not enroll in FBA Prep Services and are unable to complete the required product prep yourself, we will automatically complete the product prep on your behalf as part of our Unplanned Prep Services and charge you an Unplanned Prep Service fee for each unit you send to Amazon fulfillment centers that we find not in compliance with our prep and packaging policies.

If you have feedback regarding Unplanned Prep Services you’d like to share with the FBA team, you can e-mail fba-unplanned-service-fees-feedback@amazon.com. If you have questions, please visit the Unplanned Prep Services Help page.

Prep and Problem Investigation Tool Launched for FBA Sellers in North America

In the Shipment Creation Workflow, you may have noticed that we provide guidance regarding current and past shipments: on the "Prepare Products" tab, we display prep guidance for products you are about to ship to Amazon and on the "Summary" tab we display problem details for issues encountered in past shipments received at Amazon fulfillment centers.

Now, if you disagree with the prep guidance or a problem displayed in the Shipment Creation Workflow, you can submit an investigation request to Amazon. Simply click “Investigate” to open the Prep and Problem Investigation Tool and provide more detail on your investigation request.

For more information, visit the FBA Prep and Problem Investigation Tool Help page.

Amazon Prime Adds New Features for Members in U.S.

You probably already know that getting your products included in Amazon Prime is one of the most important benefits of using FBA. In recent weeks, the Prime program has expanded to include valuable features for customers—and your FBA products may benefit.

Same-Day Delivery Expansion

Amazon has expanded Same-Day Delivery service in six U.S. metro areas, including New York City, Washington, D.C., and Philadelphia. With Same-Day Delivery, Amazon customers can get their orders the same day when they order as late as noon, 7 days a week.

Prime members pay only $5.99 for all the Same-Day Delivery items in one order. Customers can shop for everything from popular movies, video games, and last-minute travel needs to back-to-school supplies and family necessities and choose “Get It Today” to get their orders delivered in hours. Pricing for non-Prime customers is $9.98 for the first item and $0.99 for each additional item.

Prime No-Rush Delivery

Amazon Prime recently released the No-Rush Shipping option. The No-Rush program offers Prime members an incentive, such as Amazon Instant Video credits toward streaming movies and TV shows, to select a different shipping option that still delivers their items within a week.

The new program offers additional flexibility to existing Prime members and makes the program even more attractive to prospective Prime members. Prime members are able to filter search and browse results to show only Amazon Prime products, which includes all FBA offers. Learn more about the Amazon Prime member’s experience with FBA products.

FREE Two-Day shipping will still be the default Prime delivery option. Members will have to select the No-Rush option during checkout. The Prime No-Rush program does not affect proceeds from or fees for FBA orders.

For more information, visit the About No-Rush Shipping Help page.
