Amazon FBA Newsletter

March 2015 Newsletter

Greetings from Fulfillment by Amazon

For many of us, spring can't come soon enough. It's a season full of growth, replenishment, and rejuvenation—all of which we're excited to help you experience with Fulfillment by Amazon.

This month's newsletter is designed with the season in mind. Read on for tips on how to manage your perishable items before the summer arrives, in addition to products that are newly eligible to send to Amazon without individual FBA labels.

You'll also get a chance to peek into the business of one FBA seller who has used Amazon's tools to expand internationally.

It's Time to 'Spring Clean' Your Inventory

Keeping optimal inventory levels is a key ingredient to being a successful FBA seller. Here are a couple of tips to help make sure your inventory is in good shape as we enter spring:

Remove Meltable Inventory by May 1: FBA accepts products that are subject to melting (such as chocolates) between October 1 and April 30 of each calendar year. Submit a removal order to have your unsold meltable inventory returned to you or disposed of prior to May 1. Be advised that removals can take 10 to 14 business days to pick, pack, and process. For more information, visit the Date- and Temperature-Sensitive Products help page.

Enable FBA Automated Unfulfillable Removals: By enabling Automated Unfulfillable Removals, you are requesting to have eligible unfulfillable units in Amazon's fulfillment centers automatically removed (either returned or disposed of) on the schedule you select. For more information, visit the FBA Automated Unfulfillable Removals help page.

Stickerless Inventory Eligibility Expands

FBA is extending the ability to go stickerless with additional eligibility for Books (excluding textbooks and used books), Luggage, Video Games, Software, Apparel, and Shoes products (excluding handbags and sunglasses) in the U.S. and Canada.

If you have chosen the Stickerless, Commingled Inventory option, new items or new product listings that you create in these eligible categories may be automatically eligible to send to Amazon without adding an FBA label to each item individually. For stickerless commingling to apply for existing inventory in these categories, you have two options: This inventory must be sold through with existing labels or removed and inbounded as new items and listings.

Some products may still require FBA labels. If that is the case, you will be alerted during the listing and shipment-creation process that labels are required.

What is stickerless inventory?

All products that enter Amazon fulfillment centers require a means of identifying the product and its ownership. A product is identified with either a UPC or EAN barcode or an FBA label you print from your Seller Central account. For some products sold by multiple sellers, you can select to "commingle" your inventory by enabling the Stickerless, Commingled Inventory setting.

When you choose to commingle inventory, your products become interchangeable with the same products from other sellers for order fulfillment and removals. In addition to eliminating the need for you to label eligible units, Stickerless, Commingled Inventory also helps Amazon place units closer to customers, which helps customers receive orders faster.

Products sent to Amazon as commingled inventory may be virtually pooled with identical products from other sellers. We virtually track which seller shipped the units to our fulfillment centers from the time it enters our warehouse through shipment to the customer. This tells us who sourced the item that the customer received.

Learn more about Stickerless, Commingled Inventory, including how to determine product eligibility and how to enable this setting.

Keep Track of Your Reserved Inventory in New Report

At times, you may notice that your inventory has a status of "reserved." This occurs when it is being assigned to a customer order, transferred between fulfillment centers, or subject to additional processing, which can include verification of item dimensions and weight or pending investigations.

The new Reserved Inventory report in Seller Central now shows the number of reserved units in your inventory at any time.

View the new report by going to your Amazon Fulfillment Reports page and clicking on "Reserved Inventory" in the Inventory section.

FBA Shipping Label Now Includes Box Number and Weight

When you are shipping multiple boxes, matching the right FBA shipping label to the right box can sometimes be a chore. To help you identify labels more easily, we have updated the FBA shipping label to include the box number and box weight, when available.

This feature is available for small-parcel-delivery shipments. The box number and weight that you have submitted will appear in the upper right corner of the FBA shipping label.

Reminder: U.S. FBA Fees Have Changed

In the past few weeks, FBA has adjusted rates in the U.S. to reflect the changing costs of fulfillment, transportation, and customer service and to align with announced changes to industry standards.

On February 18, 2015, Pick & Pack and Weight Handling fees changed, as did the way we calculate Dimensional Weight.

Monthly Inventory Storage Fees changed on March 1, 2015. These changes will first be reflected in April charges for storage in March.

Answer Your Customers' Product Questions

If you enable the optional FBA Buyer-Seller Messaging Service, customers can ask you specific questions about products they have purchased from you.

Sharing your specialized product knowledge when customers have specific questions can help reduce product-return rates and encourage repeat purchases.

What kinds of questions might customers ask? Perhaps they want more information about how your product works. Or maybe there's assembly required for their product, and they need clarification.

It's important to remember that the FBA Buyer-Seller Messaging Service is for product inquiries only. Amazon will continue to provide customer support for all of your FBA orders and sales. Other customer questions, such as how or where to return a purchased item, should be directed to Amazon customer service.

You can enable Buyer-Seller Messaging in Seller Central by choosing Settings and clicking Fulfillment by Amazon. Under Product Support, click Edit. Click Enable, then click Update.
