ACS Awarded $1 Million to Continue IYC Momentum
The International Year of Chemistry received a major boost recently, with the announcement of a $1 million grant to continue promoting chemistry beyond 2011.  The funding was provided by the Division of Chemistry of the National Science Foundation with additional support from the National Institutes of Health (National Institute of General Medical Sciences).  The grant will support two initiatives that aim to increase awareness and knowledge of chemistry and its contributions to the well-being of humankind, increase engagement and interest in chemistry and related sciences, and positively shift attitudes regarding chemistry and related sciences.  The grant allows ACS to launch IYC Challenge Kits and a Science Festival Series, which are designed to communicate to the public about the importance of chemistry in our everyday lives.
