Which Came First - Social CRM or Social Media?

To better serve your members and recruit new ones, should you first set up a Social CRM infrastructure to guide and support your efforts, or would it be better to dive right into Social Media and learn as you go?

It’s a classic chicken/egg conversation, and both schools of thought have their merits – should member-based organizations:

1)  first set up a Social CRM infrastructure for organizing their social media efforts and tracking its effectiveness, or

2) begin participating in those social media networks that seem to make the most sense for their members and use early results to formulate a social strategy?
