Hunting for Golden Elphants

Dear Reader,

As an avid investor in the junior mining market I am always on the hunt for the next GOLDEN ELEPHANT. I'm talking about those small companies that find a massive resource. Their stock can literally skyrocket 1,000%... 5,000%... even 10,000% in a short period of time.

The problem of course is that they are by nature a very scarce, seldom seen beast. But we DO see them.  Every year there are those few companies that start at pennies and then rise to valuations that make people millionaires and even multi-millionaires.

So what is it that makes one company a winner, another a loser, and most importantly what makes those “life-changing winners” we all salivate for?

When I review the past years it becomes clear to me that you can easily identify the characteristics of golden elephants like Bema Gold, First Majestic, Wolfden, Kinross, Silver Wheaton, Osisko, Ivanhoe, Anvil, Keegan, Ventana, Antares, Aurelian, Lumina, etc.

Take Ventana Gold, for example. I personally know investors who made in excess of $10 million on the stock. One close colleague of mine is rumored to have made over $100 million. Ventana Gold started out as a true penny stock. It started trading for just $0.39 a share. Two years later it was acquired for over $1.5 billion… a gain of 3,200% from where it started trading.

Or take First Majestic Silver, for instance.  Ten years ago First Majestic was trading for just $0.02 a share. That’s right, $0.02.

But that all changed when Keith Neumeyer took-over management of the company. Today First Majestic trades for $21 a share with a market cap of $2 billion.  Investors in First Majestic who bought when Keith took-over have seen their fortunes grow over 13,000%!

A modest $1,000 investment in First Majestic Silver would’ve ballooned to $130,000!

Last June I was in the offices of First Majestic Silver in Vancouver with CEO Keith Neumeyer. While studying new deals with Keith and other venture capitalists, it became clear to me why First Majestic became a golden elephant.

That’s when I decided to drill down deep and try to find out what makes a small idea by a few men starting at pennies per share into big mining companies trading for billions of dollars.

The dart board is not that big, though. So how do I center in on the few great companies and stop wasting time and money with the white noise created by others.
