But banseljaj (Ali Sajid Imami) called me today from Pakistan to forewarn me that he wanted to put an announcement up on the list about the proposed 25th anniversary celebration, which he has since posted to the mailing list. He wants official recognition and support, and ideally some stateside assistance in planning the thing. So I am opening the floor to discussion while the Board election proceeds (there's only one day left). I am willing to assist others, but I'm not willing to commit to doing it all myself, given the amount of distraction I have been experiencing; Nora and I will attend anything that is reasonably local (and there is a reasonable chance of getting other Founders to attend as well, depending on the details.) Even if I had the time, I'm also not current on the skill set needed to organize something other than the home gatherings that constituted LogFests up until around 10 years ago; I seldom deal with hotels since I rarely travel, and don't use a cell phone or any of the social media except for my rare appearances on IRC. The old LogFests had minimal planned activities other than the annual meeting, so planning activities isn't something I would be able to do. (Nora and I would probably try to be up for some Lojban conversation, though we are both quite rusty.) Having said what I can't do, I am fully in favor of supporting such a gathering if the community wants to hold such a thing, and that means a little more energetic response than we've seen so far in this meeting. Would any of you attend? (Mark Shoulson, John Cowan, and Pierre are the only ones that I know are reasonably close to DC among you, and Pierre may not be if he takes a job further away.) What kind of budget would you support - something akin to the $1000 dollars we allotted to Robin for last summer's LogFest is the most that I would contemplate seeking, but I'm not sure how to spend even that amount wisely, given my limited experience. Further ideas, interest, commitments, appreciated. And if you don't think we can or should do this, then that also should be spoken. Is anybody out there? Does anybody care? lojbab -- Bob LeChevalier lojbab@lojban.org www.lojban.org President and Founder, The Logical Language Group, Inc. _______________________________________________ Llg-members mailing list Llg-members@lojban.org http://mail.lojban.org/mailman/listinfo/llg-members
