The Storm

=20

=20

I feel excitement as I look around my = kitchen looking at coolers packed, bags of food filled with junk food, and = a ton of booze!. I look on the kitchen island and go over my check list for= the seventeenth time. I feel like a school girl excited for a first date. = I can hardly contain myself of pure joy!

=20

=20

I can hear music playing in the driveway, and the horn honk! ?Th= ey're here!? I yell at my husband for help with my bags. The girls in the c= ar are singing to the music, laughing and wave. One of my friends had a tra= vel mug in one hand and helping with the SUV door. It was packed, but I man= aged to squeeze my stuff in. We always pack way to much food, and enough bo= oze to pickle the whole entire section of produce at the grocery store!=

=20

=20

?Here?, my friend of 30 years passes me a travel mug.=

=20

=20

?Already! We are not even out of town yet? I reply having a sip = of very strong margarita!

=20

=20

?Oh you bet?, Stac looked at me and la= ughed ?its 5 o'clock somewhere!?

=20

=20

I shook my head, turned to kiss my hus= band goodbye. He was shaking his head, ?have fun see you in a couple of day= s!!? Now waving at us as Jes backed up the car and blasts the music of Mado= nna! I can see him shaking his head, and I couldn't help but smile! It's go= ing to be a fun ride of two cars filled with 50 year old women! We clink ou= r travel mugs and down the highway we went. I couldn't help but think I fee= l so sorry for the poor guy that is driving the house boat this weekend.&nb= sp;

=20

=20

In the four hours of travel to one of = the most beautiful lakes in Ontario we must have stopped 5 times, our bladd= ers are not like they used to be. Everyone would pile out and switch vehicl= es on every stop. The poor drivers were sure to catch up as soon as we got = all of our gear on the house boat.

=20

=20

Finally we pulled into the resort, sti= ll laughing all of us made our way down to the dock where our houseboat awa= its. It was huge and beautiful. The roof of the captains quarters had a fla= t bed roof for all of us to suntan and enjoy the views. Below deck, &n= bsp;there was a kitchen, table, some couches,  bathroom and 4 bed= s for us to double up.

=20

=20

It was a beautiful day, not a cloud in the sky. The breeze from = the boat moving forward felt good on this hot summer day. The captain didn'= t mind our music, as a matter of fact I think he was enjoying us old girls = and our stories.  He stopped the boat, and anchored while we had = a late lunch and decided we all wanted to jump in the cold water. It was ve= ry refreshing, and a much needed brake from drinking. The ?bevies' were goi= ng down very smoothly. It was nice to see the girls having a great time. I = was so happy that we decided to do this, this year. We usually get together= every year for a camping trip but this year we wanted to make it different=

=20

=20

After swimming the captain started up the house boat while we al= l were on the flat deck, dancing, singing, and catching up. It was time for= supper, and the captain pulled into a bay and anchored for the night. He t= old us that this bay was out of the wind if the weather took a turn for the= worse and we would be in calm waters no matter what the weather had in sto= re. Later that night we were happy to be in the bay because a storm was app= roaching very fast.

=20

=20

In Ontario the storms come fast, with heavy rains (sometimes hai= l) and a lot of lightning. To see the storm come in so quickly on our first= night was a little scary. The lightning was beautiful looking out the wind= ows from the lower deck. I was very happy to be in calm waters, watching th= e storm. They usually wouldn't last to long, but some of us were tired = from travelling and the very hot sun from the day.

=20

=20

A lightning bolt cracked so loud and a= t the same time we could see the captain outside trying to make his way to = the door in his rain suit and flashlight. Bel opened the door, and asked if= everything was ok.

=20

=20

The captain had a worried look on his = face and said that one of the other house boats didn't make it to the bay a= nd started taking on water and their passengers were in danger. He then ask= ed us if we wouldn't mind bringing the passengers and captain on board unti= l morning when help could come and bring them back to the resort. We didn't= hesitate and asked if we could help with the skiff. It was very windy so D= e and I went out to help. After fighting with the winds the captain was off= to get the crew from the other boat.

=20

=20

De and I ran to the door, to dry off a= nd get dressed. Al asked if the captain said how long he would be, and Di a= nd I looked at each other with a worried look and said ?no.?  The= storm was letting off a bit, the winds weren't so strong but it was still = raining out. Anna, got up to make some coffee and put some baileys out for = our guests, and cut up some cheese, meat and crackers just in case they wer= e hungry. Now we waited.

=20

=20

Nei said ?well if they are not back by= morning Cor and I can drive this beast back? looked around and said ?after= all all of us know how to navigate and know survival skills.? We all laugh= ed and saluted to our new brave captains!!

=20

=20

A few hours passed and we could hear t= he boat coming closer, so we all went outside to help our passengers from t= he skiff to the house boat.  Something was wrong the guy driving = the the skiff was not our captain. Once they got closer we could not see ou= r captain at all. I was very nervous as the skiff had 3 young women and two= guys. They were all wet, and the young women were crying.

= =20

=20

I reached for the boat to tie it to th= e house boat and One by one all of us girls helped them on to the boat.&nbs= p;

=20

=20

Cor said? Where is the captain, yellin= g over the motor still running? one of the guys said ?he and the other capt= ain stayed behind to work on the motor and would come as soon as it was run= ning again.?

=20

=20

The motor was now shut off and we invited everyone in to w= arm up and get the girls dry. The three of them reluctant to go with Jes an= d Ela. But the one burly guy nodded his head and off they went to the bunk = area.

=20

=20

The conversation while they were gone was strange. The one guy c= ouldn't stop shaking, his eyes wide looking at the big burly guy almost lik= e he was scared. The burly guy-Chad helped himself to the food and took the= baileys and sat down. He didn't offer anything to the skinny one. The air = felt different, strange, and very uncomfortable. Al went to get up, to see = if they needed any help in the back and Chad told her to sit down.

=20

=20

We all looked at each other, and she said ?pardon me? I'm going = to see if they need any help.? Chad stood up and told her to sit down. She = did now looking at us nervous.

=20

Cor stood up and said, ?hey man we don't want any trouble,= we are just here to help.? She is the feisty one of the group and not afra= id of anyone. She looked at us, then at Chad and said, ?do you mind if = I go to the washroom in the captains courtiers since the girls are in the s= leeping courters were the other bathrooms are??

=20

=20

Chad said ?sure don't take to long.?

=20

=20

?Ok? she said. Looked at us again and = headed for the door.

=20

=20

Jes, Ela and the three girls came out = very quietly, and the thee girls had their heads down. Jes went to the cubb= ord to get the tray of food to put on the table were the girls sat. Jes was= very quiet and I new something was up.

=20

=20

Chad stood up and said ?what is taking= that girl Cor so long? and headed for the door. Jes looked at me with a ho= rrified look on her face.

=20

=20

I stood up and said ?Wait Chad? He loo= ked at me with shifting angry eyes and said ?what??

=20

=20

I said, ?you might need a flashlight, = looking past him looking at Ela.

=20

=20

Just then Ela struck him hard with a f= rying pan and he fell hard to the floor! The skinny guy went  to = stand up and one of the young girls tripped him and he to fell!

=20

=20

?What is going on!? Stac said with panic in her shrill voice, lo= oking at the two guys on the floor, and at Ela and Jes. =20

=20

?Hurry, find something to tie up Chad? yelled Ela

= =20

=20

Stac grabbed her cord from her phone and tied up his hands. = ;

=20

=20

The skinny guy now yelling ?Stop! You = have to stop! He will kill all of us!!?

=20

=20

One of the young girls hit him with th= e frying pan while Al tied up his hands with her cell phone cord.

=20

=20

We all looked at the two guys passed o= ut on the floor in a heap. The thunder struck and left a crack so loud we a= ll jumped and I screamed, it scared me so bad. The girls now crying, and De= looking for duct tape or something to tie their feet.

=20

=20

Cor came back looked at the two guys a= nd said help is on the way. I was calling for help on the radio phone since= our cells don't work out here! ?What is going on in here?? That is when th= e girls told us that they were taken at a truck stop by the two guys. They = were on the Lake headed to the border to sell them for money for sex trade.= The skinny guy used to work for the lodge and new exactly were this boat would be and called in a ma= yday to the captain. Once the captain came across the lake in the little sk= iff the big guy Chad threw your captain in the water and shot at him, that = is when  we came here.

=20

=20

They cried and we were all shaken up. A few hours later help cam= e and they found our captain still alive floating on the water. We decided = that our houseboat girls weekend was a bust, but the lodge upgraded us to t= he best cabin for the rest of the weekend.

would be back by 10: pm, so me and my= sister had no choice but to clean up. I was so exhausted but I had to clea= n up or else me and my sister would be grounded for at least 2 months. Whil= e I was cleaning it felt like it would take an eternity to clean up all thi= s mess, but I didn't have that kind of time. As we were cleaning I found a = necklace on the floor. It had a small stone shaped clock in the middle.as i= t was night, I decided to give it to its owner in the morning, but not to l= ose it I wore it. I noticed there was some strange writing on it. I looked = closer and there it was written ?wakat ruk ja may tumhe bolte h= un ruk ja mere batoun pe mere lafzon pe ruk ja? I read it out= loud. I kept it in my pocket and continued cleaning. I looked at the time = it 8:37 and after some tim= e of cleaning I noticed it was still 8:37. I thought I was having Da ja vu = but after a long time of cleaning it was still 8:37. Knowing something was = wrong I decided to tell my sister, who was cleaning the kitchen, only to fi= nd her in a still position and not moving. At first I thought it was a pran= k but she stood there a very long time, I tickled her and poured water on h= er and she didn't even blink. I had an idea; if I really stopped time then = no one can see or hear me outside. I went out only to find everyone as stat= ues and not moving. I went on as I saw many people many of them were eating= I might have eaten a few slices of pizza from someone. As I went I was so= fascinated. It was so amazing. I was getting a little bored so I decided t= o go to a mall. I borrowed the car from a stranger and drove to a mall. On = my way to the mall I stopped at the petrol pump to fill up the gas. I d= idn't have money so I borrowed some from someone. I was doing a favor to th= e guy with the car I refueled it even though I had to read the instructions= 10 times. When I reached the mall at last I tried everything and played on= every game. After sometime I decided to eat ice cream from MC Donald's, th= e best ice cream anywhere, I ate till I was full. I also went in a very exp= ensive store where I tried on everything. Those dresses weren't as cute as = I thought they will be. After that I decided to try to eat everything like = KFC, Hardees, Burger king etc. I think my favorite of all foods was KFC. I = ate like 20 pieces and a bunch and I mean a bunch of fries. It was so tasty= I had so much fun. I also played on kids rides without anyone to judge me= I also went to the place where they announce everything and I sang like n= obody is watching. I realized that I am not good at singing. I found a huge= theater where I watched many movies. Operating the movie projector was I h= ad to read the instructions like 20 times to understand how it works. I wat= ched many movies like frozen 2, Aladdin, lion king, rotten tomatoes, witche= s, Raya and the Last Dragon and I also watched all the movies in harry pott= er series and star war series and Indiana jones series. When I was done I w= atched it all again and I think I probably finished all the popcorn in the = theater. I think I sat in the theater all night watching these movies but g= uess what it was still 8:37pm. As I was walking in the mall I saw a huge po= ster of BTS and then I suddenly realized that BTS was in the city going to = do a concert tonight. Without even thinking I drove to the show. I couldn't= buy a ticket as they were sold out. I went there, entered without anyone s= topping me. I even went backstage to meet the BTS crew. Jung kook was more = handsome and dreamy in person. I did many more things like I took a permane= nt marker and drew on the guard's face, who was on the doorway of the concert. I had so much fun. Sud= denly I felt a little lonely as there was no-one. I realized that time stop= ped as I read the weird letters on the necklace so the only way to reverse = it was to read it again. I read it out loud ?wakat ruk ja = may tumhe bolte hun ruk ja mere batoun pe mere lafzon pe ruk ja? and nothing happened, I read it again ?wakat ruk ja may tum= he bolte hun ruk ja mere batoun pe mere lafzon pe ruk ja? but= nothing changed, I read like 9 more times but nothing happened. As fun as = this was it was a little lonely. I was getting a little scared now so I dec= ided to go home. Everything was getting creepier and creepier. Everything l= ooked like it was closing in and the walls started to become black and spid= ers and cockroaches surrounded me. I thought I was hallucinating but either= wise I ran as fast as I can. I ran and ran till I got tired. I sat down fo= r a while I looked at the time and it was still 8:37. Then suddenly I heard= weird voices they weren't clear at first but then the voice started to= surround me saying 'wake up! Wake up! Mom and dad will be here any minute'= and I woke up to know that it was all a dream. I should have known that it= was too good to be reality.
