The reason, as far as I can figure out, is to avoid ambiguity i= f=20 two BIhI occur with one GAhO and nothing else between them. The only way th= at=20 I know of that this can happen is if an afterthought BIhI joins two phrases= ,=20 the second of which is a forethought BIhI phrase: mi klama fo le berti jedji'o ku bi'o ga'o bi'i ke'i gi la beNIN. gi la=20 GLApagos. It is useful, particularly when "mi'i" is applied to a more-than-one=20 dimensional space, to speak of an interval that is closed or open at one en= d=20 (the center) and neither closed nor open at the other. I therefore propose= =20 the following change: *When BIhI is used in afterthought, it can be preceded or followed by GAhO,= =20 and can have GAhO on both sides, one, or neither. *When BIhI is used in forethought, it is neither preceded nor followed by= =20 GAhO. The GAhO, if any, is placed instead after "gi", as is done now=20 with "nai" on logical conjunctions. (jbofi'e claims that it is grammatical = to=20 put "nai" after the second "gi", but not the first, in a "bi'igi ... gi ...= "=20 construction.) Is this a sensible change?
