Peopl= e didn't have to invent "Copenhagen" while they could spell it as "Kobnhawn" (phonetically approximate) or "Kobenhavn" (orthographically approximate). The key is a better understanding of the other, the practice of which would be impossible if you were too much culturally selfish. Hasn't Lojban been designed to be as culturally neutral as possible? I do really love Lojban; but I would have loved it more if there were other options than {XEminueis.= } or {.e'Eminueis.} for the name "Hemingway", for instance. Although I won't seriously complain about that since Lojban - I'm convinced - has already go= t incredible possibilities to offer us.
