It occurred to me yesterday that I'm not sure how to use gerku:

x1 is a dog/canine/[bitch] of species/breed x2

I'm wondering about the "species" designation for the x2 place--my
impression is that "dog" refers to a specific (sub) species: Canis lupus
(familiaris), meaning that the x2 slot would only really be about breeds,
and not species, since the species would be redundant.  Is "dog" here
actually referring a higher-level classification, like Canis or Canidae?
 Can a coyote be properly referred to as "gerku?"  A fox?  Or is "gerku"
just for domesticated dogs?
