Trailing sumti are attached to the parent bridi. So if I say {mi nelci sei la tam cusku lo nu citka} I have said: "I like, tom said, eating". Not "I like, tom said the event of eating". If you wanted to say that you would have to say {mi nelci sei la tam lo nu citka cu cusku}. Whatever that might mean, the {lo nu} there belongs to the cusku. The other way is to use {be} like Timo does.
