It's obviously an exaggeration, but it's exactly what he meant, which is fine. Regarding the interpretation of an unbound {da}, it means what it has meant, and how Lojbanists who do speak and use Lojban regularly use it. Gejyspa and myself both use it the same way, so I'm inclined to leave it how it is. With the example of {mi viska re danlu .i roda gerku}, there are SO MANY ways to refer back to {re danlu} that I don't understand why you -must- use {da} in particular. It's not actually meant to do that, at all.
