I've heard on IRC and such that here's a "tagged usage". This is the usage described in CLL chapter 9 section 12. After re-re-re-re-reading the section, I (yet again) understand tagged jai. I just don't see it used often enough to make it really stick. Hopefully this latest romp will make it stick for good. Incidentally, the CLL really does a good job of explaining it. For the nintadni out there, here's how tagged jai works: Before the selbri, you can say {jai broda} where is anything under selma'o "BAI" (I'm not sure if you can put other tags in there like "pu" and such... could be neat). This construct changes x1 to be a sumti that would normally be in the position. e.g. {mi cusku bau la lojban} = {la lojban jai bau cusku fai mi}. I guess the two usages kind of make sense now if you think of taggless {jai} as a more generic form of {jai TAG selbri}. Leave out the "TAG" and it's just a generic sumti that gets swapped into x1.
