Silly me. Yes, {ri'a} is what I meant. I would read {paunai ri'a ma mi mutce tatpi} as "Why am I very tired?" My initial thought was (correcting for the causal) {ri'a ma paunai ni mi tatpi kei fa li so'e} - "Why is the degree to which I'm tired high [on the obvious scale]?" I thought to leave the first place empty and let pragmatics indicate that there was something unusual about the degree to which I was tired (or else I wouldn't be asking the rhetorical question). Now that I think about it, it could equally well mean "Why am I so not-tired?" My justification for using {ni} as opposed to {mutce} is to call attention to the degree of my tiredness as unusual. I know why I'm very tired: I only got 5 hours of sleep. What I don't know is why I feel more tired today than on other days when I've gotten 5 hours of sleep. ki'e On Mon, Mar 12, 2012 at 5:36 PM, ianek wrote: > I don't think {mu'i} is the correct choice here, you're not tired > because something motivates you (or are you?).
