Just as a follow up to my own inquery,  Loglan 1, 3.11 confirms that the 
concept of tanru is completely idiomatic. JCB compares Loglan to Chinese in 
this respect.

Note I am being fairly narrow about my use of the word "idiom" --that the 
meaning can't be *deduced* as a simple bridi of the words.
