Those to me sound like /=C9=94n/, which is not a word in my dialect of Engl=
ish, and=20
/on/, which is <own>, but in my pronunciation usually realized as [o=CA=8An=
] or=20
[oun]. Both [=C9=94n] and [on] are Lojban <on> to me, but [o=CA=8An] and [o=
un] are not=20
valid Lojban. I pronounce English <on> as /=C9=91n/ (not /=C9=92n/, which i=
s <awn>, the=20
long straight projection with backward tiny teeth sticking out of some cere=
al=20
grains).

I prefer to explain Lojban vowels in terms of Spanish ones, since few accen=
ts=20
in Spanish vary the vowels much. The Lojban /a/,/e/,/i/,/o/,/u/ are the sam=
e=20
as in Spanish. The /=C9=99/ <y> doesn't exist in Spanish, but does exist in=
 French=20
and English.

Lojban has the diphthong "ei", but not "ou".
