A lujvo for "catalyst -- a substance that changes the rate of a chemical reaction" might be "nilxumfrasutkezgafxu'i". This looks too long to me.
And I don't think a fu'ivla based on "catalyst" would make a good alternative either, in terms of neutrality, since some major languages such as Chinese, Hindi, and Arabic have words not related to "catalyst"s etymology for this concept.
