There seems to be a general lack of awareness of what an email list  
is before joining and how they work server side. This might be  
generational, email lists are old technology, pre Web in fact, and  
the joiners might not know they, generally, can control every by  
sending emails to the list server with the right commands, let alone  
know what the commands might be.
