The worst part is that jbi is the rafsi for jibni, not for jbini.

Probably the most confusing pair of gismu, perhaps competing with
ractu/ratcu and grana/garna. Related meanings and similar forms.

I considered that, but the "approaches but doesn't tend to" meaning
isn't really used in maths, as far as I know, so I don't really see
much of a problem. How does "cimni" change anything anyway?

Another thing is that the approach need not be monotonic.
