[jbovlaste] Re: A meta-level comment on the list
But we might also want to create another one specifically for
jbovlaste tasks.
I'd really rather you didn't. The point here is that people with
jbovlaste accounts are *automatically* subscribed to this list. We
had problems in the past where people who signed up for accounts
were not participating in discussions about how to use the system,
and would keep doing whatever wrong things they were doing until we
went and contacted them personally.
I wholeheartedly approve of the idea that everyone with a jbovlaste account is
in on the jbovlaste discussions, so they're participating and being aware of
what's happening. That said, I wonder whether the announcements of word
changes are critical for all users. We're finally starting to see some real
work being done, and it's fantastic, but it is becoming a lot of mail. I
wonder whether it would be better to keep everyone subscribed to a
hypothetical jbovlaste-discuss (where we can all discuss ideas, particular
words, etc), and create an optional subscription to jbovlaste-changes (which
gets automatic mail any time any word is changed).
As a bigger change for the copious free time, it would be nice if the -changes
mails were consolidated; right now creating a single lojban word sends a bunch
of messages (new natlang word, new lojban word, new definition, new gloss
words, new place keywords, etc etc). If all of that came as one mail, it
would probably reduce the load significantly.
The system we're using allows peple to easily unsubscribe
themselves, but I've got a system in place to put them back
until/unless their account is disabled. I'd really rather not have
to replicate it for Google Groups.
What I can do, and have done, is make the new account page a *LOT*
more clear as to the purpose of the account:
