Re: [jbovlaste] SNP, RFLP, allele

"Also, one can talk of an allele of a SNP that isn't part of a gene."  My understanding of the terminology is that the SNP isn't what is being referred to as an allele (Not sure how one might define it in a non-protein coding 'intergenic' region).  A single SNP can define a new allele though.

What exactly are you trying to describe with ginbi'iclavricystu?  Allele; non-coding region; or intergenic region?

Comments?

I'm not sure what word to use for "allele". I used "tairmupli" on IRC the
other day; that means "x1 is the x2 form of x3", such as "«sang» is the past
tense form of «sing»". I think an allele could be a mupli, but I'm not sure
what property it shows; sometimes an allele makes no difference to the protein
produced. Also, one can talk of an allele of a SNP that isn't part of a gene.
