I actually had {.u'inai} in mind. I had started out with {.uinai} in
the first takes but then changed it because of the rhythm. And yes,
in some places it sounds a little bit like {.o'inai} to me, too. But
I rashly ignored that little flaw ;-)
I definitely hear {.ui}, although in an [uj] version rather than the
more common [wi].
Yeah, I really don't like this [w] pronunciation of {u}. It's an
irregularity in pronunciation. The letter is pronounced differently
just because it's at the beginning of the word. IMO, the only reason
to do this is because of {.uu}. But that's probably something that
English or French speakers won't notice as much as Germans.
({oinai} would be kind of contradictory, wouldn't it?)
So what? The whole thing is a performative contradiction ;-)
I always felt that way about the original and I think that
contradiction is one of the reasons why it became so successful.
BTW, except for the little {ui} thing the transcripts are perfect.
