Okay, so I'm trying it out once more...and thinking about the sounds more than the individual letters helped me out quite a bit, I think.
ty., cy., .ebu, ly., sy., .ibu.
Is that a bit closer?

This is the beginners mailing list. A lot of beginners will usually
talk about letters and characters, but that is a discussion which we
will have with them in English. I don't think very many beginners are
going to speak in Lojban to describe unused characters. It sounds like
a good topic to take up on the main mailing list.
